Surfriding 2008 SJ.... Shortened, Widened, Reinforced....a work in progress.

Some have been asking what I have been up to, so I decided to just start a thread. I have seen this topic coming up more and more lately, so I would like to add my project to the idea bin..... 2008 SJ shortened 3.5 inches, tray widened to the max, tray lowered and reinforced for adjustable holds, oem tubbies with destroyers on top. Lots of work on this lower deck to get it just the way I want it. And of coarse carbonized to look sick with my hood and pole setup. Tray top still in the works. Thanks for looking and any question feel free to ask.

-3.5 Slash cut.

How do you get the carbon to lay without the pattern showing through? Are you vacuum bagging the hull?
No bags yet! This 4x4 carbon twill is very very drapable and does not have much bump buildup when resin is applied. Just takes very carefull hand squigeeing and gentle sanding between resin coats. Squigee out the xcess resin is the key to keeping it lightweight and strong.....And on the flat sections its a great idea to use a wood roller to really get biax saturated with the least amount of resin used. But no, no bags yet. squigee and rollers work great and are very simple.

Ok it's time to change your user name to MADFISH66 !

Looks like you are havin fun there, good work dude !

With all the cutting / sanding dust / resin fumes / beers / blunts...... I feel like a MAD MAN!!!! And I hate to say the fun ended a month ago, this is now almost a job and I just want it done! This is taking waaaaay to much time but progress is progress.....

Nice work, you should also post this in the ski buildups section!

When its all done, a MASSIVE build thread will be posted. Ohh and I wanted to ask you jetmaniac, do you have some of these you could send me? like 2 of each.....? When I sold my blowsion trim i shipped it off with the steering fitting still on the nozzle.....and the steering quik disconnect i would like to run it on my trim...

Very envious of your ability to work the CF. My attempts have been borderline disasterous in comparison.

Thanks, it just takes time. CF is not to bad to work with as long as you tape the edges of tight spots.... CARBON/KEVLAR is a B!TCH..... I redid the engine bay and reinforced my hood with carbon/kevlar and its twice as hard to work with, twice as beautiful in the sun but twice as difficult to finish. And how ironic the best looking work is in the two spots that never really gets sun......but i know its there!
