2008 sj ..... Pole chop and carbon wrap .

I have been workin the last couple of days on shortening and reinforcing my stock pole. 2008 SJ, cut the pole down about 4 inches. This idea seemed like a headache at first but it was actually really sssuper easy ! I never even took the pole off the ski, and this was my first time working with carbon as well and it came out ssssweet! !!! Thanks for taking a look. Two layers 8.3oz carbon, SS through bolts, epoxy resin, and a sweet set of riser bars.

.. THE WRAP .. 8.3oz 4x4 carbon fiber twill weave

.. THROUGH BOLTS .. two large SS bolts

.. ALL FINIISHED ..

Thanks for looking. Came out great and was much easier than I ever thought. Cant wait to get it in the water and rip!

Stocker is held in with glue and rivets, for xtra strenth it is now held in with JB weld, carbon, and SS bolts that go all the way through the pole. A little overboard yes, but things can never be too strong.

I like it but think I will rivet mine back in when I do it I just need some time.

I know what the stocker is held with. I also know that sometimes removing too much material can weaken the part.

I seriously doubt two 3/8th holes surrounded in layers of carbon fiber weakened anything at all.....but everyone has an opinion and its cool.

i think you took more than 4 inch off tho, you have to count whats in the bracket too(assuming you did take that out and didn't just "glass" it back to the bracket)
edit: nm, i was thinkin there was 2 inched in the bracket, i guess that could be -4

i shortened mine the other day and used ss rivets and epoxy. i came forward out of the tray 2 days later and took the pole with me, luckily the glass just jumped the rivets so i didnt have to shorten it again, was out of town so i used what i had, marintex and moroso tire screws from our old rock crawler and rigged up a limiting rope, works great now. comes out i hadnt sanded the pole enough before i epoxied, so when i put the pole back in it just pushed all the epoxy out, lesson learned.

Well...about 4.5 inches shorter. I measured 3 inches above the mount, about 1.5 inches in the mount so round about numbers -4.5 chop.... And after reading ur experience thats why I used JB weld, really roughed up inside the mount and the pole and acetoned both before goopin em up! Overlapped the carbon onto the base of the mount as far as i could and made sure it stayed put with the through bolts.... this lil b!tch is not going anywhere......!

Looks really good. It is the epoxy/jb weld that is the most important as far as keeping it together, and it sounds like you did the right prep work so you should be cool until you break the stock lower bracket.

keep in mind he had no composite experience and his work came out cleaner than alot of the "professional" jobs i have seen...
