Came across this unit at work today. It's a First Alert Model number FESA-4.
Here is a pic of it beside my 16oz travel mug. It's a 5-BC but not USCG approved.

What feature does it need to comply with to be USCG approved?

$10 says if it's red and round, that's as far as they look anyways.
The only times i was ever pulled over and looked at they asked if I had things and never actually verified anything themselves. As far as they were concerned I had a bail bucket and a toss line in my SN.
