Can someone please help me with information for this ski.

My friend got it for free, but I know nothing about it. I think it has a piston port motor, but I have no idea if there are reeds or anything like that for this thing. It sat for the last 8 years, but it looks BRAND NEW.

What are some of the best mods for the ski. I was thinking pipe, waterbox, flywheel. I think it has the single 44 BN on it.

if it's a piston port, no reeds

aftermarket charging flywheel, coffmans pipe, solas impeller, hydroturf etc etc..the list goes on.............

When you say single BN do you mean SBN 44? i think it comes with the round body stock...............



anyway that should be on the first mods you do to a JS550, atleast thats what i did. some people think putting up 200 for a new carb (for that ski) is pointless, I didnt....


The Super BN will allow increased airflow and a greater fuel pump. along with tuneable replaceable jets. buy new if you can afford it that way you know nothing is wrong with it.

you need a adapter that will space it away from the stock intake mani like this one from north wet.

1990 is a piston port motor with the sx hull with rubber side mats. There are no reeds on a piston port motor. Stock, I believe the motor comes with a keihn carb, as do all kawis. I'd say a good combination of first mods would be a pipe, air filter, and some hull mods such as a prop and ride plate. Once you get serious maybe go with a higher compression head. Definately ditch the stock exhaust though and open it up for some more and crisp power.

Ah, I did not know that. Well then Id venture to guess from 1991 and up Kawis were keihns. My 91sx had a keihn, I never knew kawi used mikunis.

Definately a Mikuni on there, i managed to get my head in there to look.

The ski seems to run hot compared to my 750, the water is HOT so is the head and pipe. Can barely touch for a couple seconds. Any thoughts on that? I'm thinking maybe corrosion from sitting idle for years.

Looking for parts now.

Kawirider what parts do you have for this ski? Looking for the pipe, waterbox, rideplate, prop, etc. Give me a ballpark price on all the stuff. As I said I am just helping a friend get this thing up to speed.

Yo Mike! Rusu here,
I was reading this thread and it all sounded pretty familiar......lol. Then it dawned on me. I've searchin' for parts as well and
I've secured a pipe and carb setup w/ bad93blaster. westcoast pipe and pjs manifold. Mikuni 44 carb w/ westcoast intake. What do you think? I can't find a lighter charging flywheel, but I want one BAD!!!!

My 92 550sx came with a Mikuni

EDIT: correction, i just went outside and took a look, one 550sx has a keihn carb, and the other has a mikuni, i remember changing it now.

kawi switched from the mikuni to the keihin in 91, according to buykawasaki.com

they switched mid 91, some 91s had the pp motor with the mukuni carb.
