$1500 RN SJ build

Just picked this 96 SJ up on Saturday for $1500. Starts right up, has a B pipe, SS impeller a DG intake grate and Riva groovy ride plate, UMI bars and a cheap finger throttle. I'm not sure if any work has been done internally to the engine. It is an SBT engine, good or bad I guess I'll find out. Previous owner had it for 2 years and didn't really now too much about it since he bought it the way it was.

Time to get to work cleaning it up. Stripped all the decals off yesterday and will start wheeling out the paint. I'm thinking I'll leave it all white for now with b stock or snow turf. I will be adding footholds soon. I'm thinking about getting the Tom21 holds, these sound like good holds for bigger feet (12-13)? I'd like to get a top loader intake grate and non extended or stock ride plate also. Other then that maybe shorten the pole and add limiting strap and just ride it as a second ski.

Any thoughts or ideas let me me know!

Seems you got some good plans for that ski. The foot holds by tom are well made and large. Do cut that pole, reinforce it while at it. Maybe refoam if you mess with the footholds anyway? Personally I prefer the b-stock over patterns/colors, but hey, tastes are different. Do the rails, get rid of the foam in the chin pad as well. I guess you're getting ODIs since the grips are off?

Just ordered Toms footholds, ODI grips and b stock turf. Removed all the stickers and wheeled the paint. Started cleaning the engine bay last night.

I'm going to try to leave the pole at stock length just to try it out and compare to my other ski thats cut down 3-4". Once I cut into the tray Ill determine if I need to refoam or not.

Wow, came out nice. Maybe a sticker kit to spice it up?

I'll see how I like it all white after the rails are turfed. If it looks to plain I will do a sticker kit or some minor paint to give it some style.

Any input on the Riva Groovy ride plate? Still not sure if I should keep it or start looking for a stock one. I've got a D cut stocker on my 97.

Just got Tom21 footholds in the mail today and they look great. Nice and big with plenty of room for padding. I should be glassing them in this weekend and turfing soon after that. Cleaned the engine bay up some and painted the chamber. Also painted the bars black (much better then the faded purple anodizing) and put on the ODI's. I'll be shooting to get it out on the water next weekend and see how well it runs.

Nice progress there. You might want to replace that zip-tie on the tank with a S/S clamp? You don't want it to seep pressure from the tank...

Found it on craigslist and was the first one to go look at it. He had about 8 others that wanted to come and get it.

I may just do that and try it out. Do you know how big of a cut you did, or do you have a picture?

I hate stickers...rock it clean. Let your riding be loud not your ski.

Got the footholds installed over the weekend and turfed Sunday and Monday. The Tom21 footholds are great so far, I've got lots of padding in them and even with a size 12 I can kick my feet all the way. They are snug but will hold well. I ended up going with 1" of padding in the tray and 1/2" on the tops of the holds. I also built up the back of the tray with more padding to help lock my feet in the holds.
