144 pump install

Ok hands down love the fx. Considering installing the 144 pump adding footholds or buying an am hull. Motor rips and enjoy how much smaller the ski is to a superjet. But I want the next step. Can't decide if it's a pump swap to help push or swap motor to an am hull. And thoughts from people doing a swap. Thanks

To do it right you need to open the intake tunnel. But in any way a 144 in the fx1 with tubbies is a nimble surf machine.

I had the 144 pump conversion on mine and it was the best thing you can do for an FX1. If your going to keep the FX1 around then I would do the pump. Aftermarket hulls are great, but you really need to ride a few so you know what you like. They all ride different.

I just finished mine a week ago and rode it 3 days in a row last weekend. I can give you alot more info when I get home tonight. I did it completely bolt in with no modifying to the ski hull itself even with manual trim. Yes it makes a incredible difference. let me know if you want pictures of how i did it.

So Noodes7792 let me answer your question the best I can. I had the same experience as you and attempted to solve the constant feel of high rpm slipping/revving that is associated with the stock setup with a 20/25 hooker for the 122 pump, wetwolf freestyle cone, and a JD scoop intake grate. The stock motor with a b pipe was still too much for the little pump. By changing to the 144mm from the 122mm pump you roughly get 40% more volume and trust me it changes everything about the ski. My friend recently did a 140 kawi pump swap (trimmed down sxr impeller) in his fx1 with the exact same motor setup and it has about 95% of the same hit as mine (144 pump with conventional 9-17 skat). Both skis with trim have gotten inverted off of their own setup wake and have way better response all around.

If you want to see how I did it I am putting a new thread up in the next hour so I don't highjack your thread.

perfect…. I am on the verge of wanting to sell my fx and get a round nose, but winters are long here and i would be willing to go the route of a bigger pump and footholds if others feel its the way to go if done right. current setup on ski is ADA gridle head with 35cc domes, MSD ignition and Coil, brand new b pipe with true Fx-1 chamber.
