07 SJ Not what I HOPED

I just bought a 2007 Superjet with a Factory B pipe, Ported by Tim Zarnstorf(not sure who that is, located by the WI / IL border), R&D head with 35mm domes, bilge pump, hood straps, Solas 12/15, intake grate!

I don't know much about these, but had a 1990 650 sx and a 2004 SXR, and kept reading how the SJ is so much more fun so I though I would try it!

Like the hull/ weight , but the engine seems to cut out! Changed plugs / checked compression 185 in 1 and 186 in 2! what else should I check? Jetting? Pipe? ran 93 octane with 40.1 yamalube!

Please help, right now my SXR will kill this thing!

That should rip.. I have a Tim Z engine, and love it. His name is Tim Zarnstorf, and I'll send you his number if you need it. Here is his e-mail, he'll get back to you here pretty quick. zforce227@aol.com
If it cuts out, I would start with simple stuff first before calling. Fuel lines, filters, filter in carbs, etc. Make sure everything has been gone through and you still have problems or he'll just tell you to do all that.

If your engine is just cutting right off and not bogging out or anything. It could Possibly be your Lanard switch. On my SJ just last week i had to buy a new switch cuz mine went bad. This weekend with my new switch it ran fine all weekend.

My ski (although way older) has had start/stop switch issues with the same problems. You could be going at speed and the motor would cut out instantly.... other times it would quit sparking on one cylinder. Pull your start stop switch apart and look at the kill switch specifically - it comes apart with 4 small screws... if the contacts inside the switch are corroded it could be fried like mine was.

You might want to consider checking your plug wires at the terminals, internal carb filters or otherwise contaminated fuel. Good luck and keep us posted. I think you will have fun with that ski once you kill the gremlins.

Try a different lanyard. My 08 only likes newer Yamaha lanyards. Even then It will cut out if I bump the start stop switch with my knee ever so gently.

Also if the pipe is setup per factory pipe recomendations it will run ok. You need some type of restriction in for the water going to the stinger. Run the bypass straight through the 'T' and the middle leg to the stinger. Have the stinger line looped in a tight radius and the pisser line as straight as possible. I have seen a ton of boats that run straight through to the stinger. They will run like absolute garbage. The pisser should be bigger than stock too. So many guys get these pipes and just hook them up. Ideally you would run a jetworks valve but the next best thing is the setup above. This setup is almost impossible to clog though. I have seen jetworks valves clog and destroy waterboxes, steering and throttle cables. There is nothing worse than a melted stop switch cable and a frayed throttle cable.

I know it has been a while still having problems

Changed in line filter
Cleaned in carb filter
Changed pipe valves
Cut and installed new spark plug boots (helped)
Drained tank replaced with 40:1 93 octane yamalube

could my jeeting be that far off?

seat 1.5
Main jet 152.5
low jet 80

what is this spring in thier carbs?

what crossover pipe that people epoxy fill?

I think it is in the pipe/carbs! JUST PIG RICH runs well on the trailer

also how do you hook it to the hose?

That jetting sounds messed up.
The main shouldn't be bigger than 140 at most.
The pilot jet may be okay at 80, but I'd guess more towards 75.

* Assuming you have a B-Pipe, and stock dual 38 carbs.

Where can I order T handle jets? What is the spring(how do you test pop off)? the one by needle and seat? Thought it was rich, it starts nice! I am at 1200 ft! Where should I start jetting wise? New to this carb stuff! How important is a flow control valve? I already have too much stuff to set! Where should I set my pipe valves, now they are top 1/4 middle closed bottom 1/2!

b pipe (how do I know mod or limited)
ada head with 35 cc domes 162 lbs compression
blowsion intakes

Thanks for all of the help!

thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I don't see adjustment screws om my carbs, are there covers over them? They don't seem to cover that in the Super BN manual!

Ordered from Jetworks today they were fantastic to deal with!

Honestly, if that is the jetting that Tim set it up with, then that is what you need. Tim is a perfectionist when it comes to building and setting up ski's. If you are close, give him a shout, sounds like you have some gremlins that are just "old age" type maintenance problems. unless you know how to diagnose your on problems you really need to find someone to help you out. Getting different info from the boards can be good and bad. You need someone to physically look at it and diagnose the problem.
