03 SXR Rattling at mid rpm's

Hello All-

I took my stock 03 SXR out today for the first time this season. When the boat jumped on plane, I noticed a loud rattling noise that appears to be coming from the back of the engine compartment. I have never noticed this noise before, and it never went away.

At one point, I fell off the ski and when trying to restart it, the starter would not turn the motor over. It would start to turn it, but then it would lock up. After hitting the button a few more times, the motor finally tuned over and the ski fired right back up. Until this point, I have never had this issue take place.

At the point, I am wondering if something is binding (bad bearing) which is causing the rattle noise and also caused the motor to temporarily not turn over. That said, any suggestions as to where to start looking?

I hope that the starter issue was just a fluke. Still not sure why it was making the "ice in a blender" noise at mid to high rpm. I was on a river that was pure glass yesterday so I am wondering if the conditions had anything to do with it.

I plugged a hose on it this morning and fired it up and it sounded pretty normal, so not really sure what the hell is going on. Are there any routine things I should check out?

You could have sucked up a stick, bag, piece of plastic, anything would cause that. Just look in your intake grate and back of ski for sticks 'stuck' to your impeller.
