This was hit on before on the four stroke thread,its pretty simple actually,run it off of vacumm using spring loaded flaps.When the engine is running the vacumm overcomes the spring tension and opens the flaps on the air intakes,as soon as the engine stops running the flaps spring closed...

Usually warping problems are due to applying too much glass-resin at a time,the heat buildup will sometimes cause it to warp,if you do it in several layups the chances of warping are greatly diminished,also leaving the plug in the mold for a week or so is a good idea,a couple of more things you...

Don't try to jump a lock,thats just dangerous.

Try some different spark plug caps,I have seen many Yamaha plug caps go bad and cause the boat to run like crapola on a stick with mustard sauce.

Its easy enough to check install a long bolt in the threaded hole on the mount,put some serious leverage on it,if it snaps its bad or at least after it snaps it is.
