    We (Kawi guys) break the studs, you (Yamaha) guys break the motor mounts, couplers and crank seals. They are all made to be ran stock and cruised around. My studs were 13 years old and were never removed.

    This motor is only 11 months old. Only ridden 5 months! (25 times total???) Do you guys recommend full rebuild or just replace the 1 piston, both sets of rings and 1 upper bearing? No cyllinder damage and no ring damage, (nothing fell below the rings)...

    btw...I actually have the girdle kit. PIA to install because the nuts are off centered and have to be shimmed (pulling the cyllinder on and off 25 times to get it right)....probably not good for the gasket! Just a poor design in my opinion. The head should just stick out further...

    The girdle bolts on an R&D head are very thin. Not thick like a SJ or like the studs. The heads actually pop off. I've actually only snapped two, same as the studs. The cases are from a 97. Probably just old beat up studs that have never been removed from the cases. Dude, my ski makes a...

    I had it girdled...the nuts kept coming loose and I was snapping girdle bolts all day long.

    Nothing got passed the rings. The cyllinder is perfect. The rings are perfect. Going to re-ring both pistons, get one new piston and a gasket kit all from Wiseco. Ordering first thing in the morning. Should be back in the water in less than a week. Florio has the studs in his garage somewhere....

    I don't know...rear piston is pretty clean. Front one was dirtier, but in perfect shape. I think I am just going to re-ring it and put a new piston in the rear.

    Here it is...Sheared off two studs holding the cyllinder to the cases. (How the hell did that happen?????) Must have happened all the same day because the nuts didn't get scuppered. Ran lean and took out a piston. F Me. I can't afford a new motor right now.
