Base gasket will not cause water in the cylinder, unless you run your ski half full of water, my guess is if your ski is half full of water you have bigger problems than a base gasket.

Ita a set of piston and cylinders that were bored, we don't know who bored them. we don't know what the clearances were and we don't know if they knew WTF they were doing or not, even people that bore cylinders every day make mistakes, I have had it happen two or three times, one time they bored...

At this point you might think about taking the cylinder and pistons to a machine shop and finding out what the piston to wall clearance is, it won't fix a damn thing but if its too low it would give you some piece of mind. I have a micrometer and snap gauges I use to check this with, a lot...

Luckily there is a spot here right by the bridge where when the wind picks up it produces pretty good waves, the ramp is right at the end of the bridge so I feel reasonably safe and not too far if I have to swim it in.

Its easy enough to find out, pull the cylinder, find a piece of glass , use prussian blue dye on the deck surface and the head surface, then lap them in on the piece of glass with valve lapping compound using a figure 8 pattern, the problem areas will show up pretty quickly as high or low spots...
