No I haven't tried disconnected the stop/lanyard plug. I contacted the previous owner and he suggested the same thing because it ran well for him in fresh water.

It has a 61x CDI with, what I believe is a 62t stator. The 61x CDI had a male end and the stator has a male end. Previous owner had created a female to female jumper wire

Yes the wire could be bad near the crimp. Cut it back until you see clean wire. That is the first check I would do. I wouldn’t be concerned about 125 psi compression because both cylinders read 125. It could be an inaccurate gauge. You should be concerned if one is 125 and the other is 160.
