OP, I have ridden the same places as you. the freshwater warmer lakes over here in western Washington and then down at Grayland in the surf. I have never changed anything to maintain ideal temperature and the ski has always ran fine. We are talking about 20* of difference in the peak of summer...
Over this past year I have bought tons of items from Optima Racing ranging from bypass fittings and gaskets to sets of sponsons and props. Time and time again Mike delivers more than expected from a vendor. His connections with Hot Products allows him to get items delivered on the west coast...
you can definitely run one at some local races to see if you/her will enjoy it, but no one uses them competitively on the national tour or at Finals for the same reason you wouldnt line up at a supercross stop on a 01 yz250
I am stoked for this ski. If it hits the market with a solid dealer network I will be in line to buy one. Glad to see some innovation on the production side of stand ups
for stock class:
advent, custom water routing, exhaust stinger, rejet the carbs, flame arrestors, ect. there is a lot of stuff you can do to eek rpm and mph out of it to be competivive
there is a ton of stuff you can do in stock class, and there is a technicality in the rules that allows stock class machines to run both front and rear sponsons.
4 degree bars help with body english when racing. i feel like 0 degree bars pull your elbows too far forward, making it more...
there is a ton you can do to make a competitive stock class machine and the 849 kit would be the last thing i did..if at all. unless you have EVERY other stock class legal mod and can ride the hell out of it, then i would just go with the next size up bore
the TDR is obnoxiously loud and offers no performance gain. stick with a stocker for twin cylinder applications and use a modified one (aka holes drilled in the baffle) for triple applications
down at havasu the lites class is dominated by 08+ superjets, the Norwegian team runs them and they take top spots almost every year. now, any other class, its mostly sxr's and hydros, but for lites racing, the 08+ is VERY competetive
08+ will definitely carve like an SXR, no doubt. sponsons are more than necessary on the 96-07, not quite as needed on the 08+ but still beneficial...they should be the first thing you do in addition to the plate and grate
on both of mine i just bought a 24" stainless tube from grainger.com and some 5200. drill a hole with a LONG drill bit through the hull underneath the steering cable location and push the stainless tube through it, then seal up everything with 5200. run the cable through, get it all adjusted in...
its fairly simple to use it as a drop nozzle since it is setup that way. drill through the hull, install a through hull tube, run a trim cable and get a lever mounted up
