you need to seal it off. resin will work but its best to add some filler for strength like milled glass fibers or chop strands to build it up. then sand and shape it down. you can also take a piece of wax paper put it in between your pump housing and the new resin mix you laid in there. install...

You can run a 144 pump in the fx1 cavity whist still using the oem 122mm shoe. if you can get your stock shoe out with out destroying it, you can enlarge the opening "close" to the 144 inlet. IT will not be a true 144 but save a lot of work glass wise in the shoe area.. many guys have done it...

some of the flywheel and stators pre 2002 were " high start " which had about a 10 degree advance on them. most Elecs after 2003 were standard. The subsequent model year stators tend to last longer than the pre 2002.
