Back From the Dead - Yamaha FX-2

I was able to get the tops of the rails sanded, and the gunnel rails hit too! Man, this gelcoat is a real pain to sand off!

New Engine, Turns Slowly NO START

No, but the old 440 we had would do the same thing. I noticed on my other 550, the wire had been replaced so I think the smoking wire thing might be a "known" issue... That was my next thought, and guess what... This starter is off of the old 440 because it was a super clean OEM... I bet this...

New Engine, Turns Slowly NO START

Motor is aligned perfectly, but that is a good thought. Yes the ground wire smoked and I replaced it with an 8g wire that runs directly to the starter body. Not the battery ground cable, the other small ground wire.

New Engine, Turns Slowly NO START

Finally got some kinks sorted out on my brothers 550SX I have been building. Unfortunately today I finally got to the point of starting and the engine turns very slowly with a fresh battery. Acts like the battery is almost dead, but it is new. Tried multiple batteries, same result. Wont turn...

Back From the Dead - Yamaha FX-2

I was also able to get the tray area pressure washed and cleaned out pretty well. I took the next plunge and after some studying decided to chop the rails! This ski will also be getting wide rails so the old ones had to go.

Back From the Dead - Yamaha FX-2

dude, it was a swamp. It had been leaking for years I believe. It had a ton of sand and rocks in the bottom of the tray. All of the lines and exhaust were really easy to remove. Before I cut this ski open, it would drip from the ride plate mounts. It was even leaking straight through the...

    Hydroturf Help needed please!

Defiantly don’t cut the top edge on the ski. You can apply multiple layers of tape on the top of the gunnels from front to back, overlapping in opposite directions, then use a razor to trim the top line where you want it. Remove the inside tape, trash it. Remove the outside tape very carefully...

Back From the Dead - Yamaha FX-2

Haha thanks! I did make 2 mistakes... I cut into the bulkhead slightly, I wasn't far back into the tray enough but I think it will be okay. It didn't cut completely through and it was only on the upper lip of the bulkhead. The 2nd mistake is that I cut completely through the rear lip! I am doing...

Back From the Dead - Yamaha FX-2

So a lot has happened since the last update! I was able to secure paper work for this broken hull. I also picked up a decent titled FX-1 in the mean time. I am still going to fix the broken hull, but I have already started to work on the complete ski I picked up. I decided to group them together...
