i used wd40 until my entire engine compartment was disgusting and black. it also softened up the rubber and made black stuff come off of the hoses. wd40 has its uses but i wont put it on my engine no more. now i dont run any oil and just hose it out and it hasnt changed anything, engine still...

hose out the engine compartment, flush the ski. store with hood off. salt water isnt as big of a deal as many think.

having the plate touch the pump isnt a bad thing, it will keep the plate from flexing to the breaking point. ive been running my homemade plate for over a year and its never cracked or delaminated. i did have to add more glass to it from beaching it hundreds of times..

next time it happens, just turn down the idle until it dies. replace or rebuild your switch.
