I know that would be easier. You're right, it doesn't make a lot of sense to go through all of this effort to repair this pole. However my ski is 100% factory original and I want to keep it that way. My pole still has the original graphics on it. It even has the original factory warning label on...
I'm very concerned about that as well. Even with a replacement pole I worry that it might still be an issue. Have you ever heard of a way to make a secondary kill switch to prevent this? I'm thinking that if I can access the power supply to the ignition module I can lengthen that wire and run it...
I noticed some cracks in the fiberglass when I got the bracket off the pole. It looks like I can reinforce it pretty easily though. Is there a way to get that styrofoam out of it without just hacking away at it with a knife?
Also, what kind of rivets/adhesive do I need to put this back together?
I'm working on getting a replacement pole right now. However in the meantime I was able to get that bracket repaired. A friend of mine is a welder for a major airline and he specializes in aluminum. He took it into the airline's repair shop and was able to weld it back together using their...
That's a good point, I hadn't considered that. I worry that even a replacement pole might eventually fail too. Is there a way to make a secondary kill switch? Maybe run the power supply to the ignition up through the pole so that if the pole breaks it will break the wire and kill the engine?
Yeah I'm afraid you might be right. My pole still has the original graphics on it though. How hard would it be to drill out those rivets and replace the bracket? I noticed some hairline cracks on the pole when I took it off so I might have to get inside of it to do a little reinforcement anyway
Yeah I know. I've already had several members of this site offer to sell me replacement poles and that's probably what I'm going to have to do. Of course I could always bring my SN SJ up there because it's still good to go. I've been spoiled by the FX1 though, there's just no replacement for the...
Sounds good. I'm going to try to make it if I can. Unfortunately I just broke my FX1 after a really hard fall. Trying my best to get it fixed up in time!
Yeah it looks like I'm going to have to cut the other wires anyway. Might look into new plugs while I'm at it.
I didn't realize that the pre 08 poles had more steering throw. I did notice that on my stock FX1 steering plate the last hole for the steering cable attachment doesn't have threads...
I tried that but it wouldn't budge. I was afraid that I would pull the wires out of the connector. I'll try again with a few jewelers screwdrivers.
What about the red/brown wires? I can't see any plug connectors on them. Do they have to be cut?
Well one way or another this pole has to come off. I've got it all disassembled but I can't figure out how to disconnect the start/stop wires. I can see down in the engine bay where they are fastened by a connector and some heat shrink. I can't get that connector apart no matter how hard I try...
Oh really? Well that's good to know. Is it a direct drop-in replacement or would I have to modify anything? How much does a superjet pole usually go for?
Can it be welded? I've seen people TIG weld cast aluminum before but I don't know if that would be strong enough to support my weight and pull me out of the water
So this just happened today. My feet came out of the tray while jumping wake and I wound up slamming down on top of my ski. I smashed my shin up pretty bad on the back of the tray but even worse, I broke the cast aluminum bracket that holds the steering plate in place. I'm afraid that getting a...
Hey I just heard about this. Allatoona isn't far from me at all and I'd love to ride with y'all if I can. What exactly goes on at a free ride? Never been to one before but I got my old SN superjet and my FX1 ready to go!
Same thing happened to my fx1 the other day. Ran great and then suddenly it would barely come out of the water and died if I hit the throttle. I took apart the carb and just blasted everything with a can of carb cleaner. Runs great. I did find some trash in my screen too.
I highly recommend...
