You could use some pieces of that thin cloth. It’s not going to hurt anything and you don’t need much, I just did that to give a little support before doing my final glassing.

Yeah, When I epoxied the tunnel in place I put paper underneath the hull to catch the extra epoxy that leaked through the openings. You could also use a piece of cardboard.
