    Help reading plugs?

You should replace your cut springs. Either replace them with a 95gr as suggested by Fastgtfairlane, or possibly the stock 115gr springs and (2) 75 low jets. (I have never tried that myself, but it is a safe change that should help starting, idling, and low end response) Bill M.

Use the aluminum parts as a template, and the gaskets as just a visual reference. If you replace the intake manifold/reed gaskets, use the spacer plate, so you don't accidentally cut out the cross over tract. Bill M. Be sure to replace the gaskets I pointed to in the attachment. They are...

impeller has 1/8" rotational slop, please advise.

There is 2 types Reverse Jetting: Low Pop-off (for racers) & High Pop-Off ( for everyone). I prefer a high pop-off. If you added the main jet and low jet on a hypothetical dual 40mm SBN-i carbs with a 75 low jet and a 150 main -> 75 + 150 = 225. Any combo of low and main that add up to 225 will...

What have you already done to try to fix the idle and starting? Do you know the jet specs and screw settings? Bill M.

Klemm has a good writing style, and there is good info on his site. But there is also some bad info, and some crazy back yard mechanic theory in there as well. The worst problem I have with his site, is the lack of effort to edit the bad and crazy stuff out of the site. I just reread some of...

    R&D powervalve yamaha cylinder

That R&D cylinder reminds me of the super cylinder Dan and John converted to work on a Yamaha shortly before PJS closed. Bill M.

impeller has 1/8" rotational slop, please advise.

The 16 is too much impeller for your set-up. It is acting like a rev-limiter and is loading down the engine like an old car going up a steep hill. Because it is like a hill, it is creating more heat, and possibly detonation. All it needs to push it over the edge (maybe) is a high compression...

impeller has 1/8" rotational slop, please advise.

There have been 3 generations of Skat Trak JS650 impellers. The straight pitch impellers were the 1st gen, and they are obsolete (a failure). The 2nd gen was a 3 degree variable pitch, and it was not much different. The 3rd gen was the 8 degree variable pitch 8/16 and it is a very good impeller...

Either you have an 80gr spring in your carbs, or your needle & seats are leaking. Look at the Mikuni Spring ID & pop-off psi. I have never changed the pop-off for new (or no) flame arrestors. It is simply not needed. For that matter, neither is replacing the hard jets. I have charged people...

    CDI help

How do you know it is the CDI? I have installed 440/550 stator coils on a Cuyuna before, perhaps you can convert the CDI to a 440/550 cdi-coil assembly from the 81' and up engines. Bill M.

impeller has 1/8" rotational slop, please advise.

I wouldn't worry about it. Some impellers make more noise than others. The o-ring or boot will reduce the noise, but on many old Skat Trak impeller people have left the o-ring out. Does it have the stock aluminum impeller? Bill M. All brands have their own distinct drive line sound. What...

    Help reading plugs?

Sorry for the long post, Comments are on the top, and action is in the second half of the post. I was a pro mechanic from 79' to 2005' and worked on primarily Kawasaki & SeaDoo, but I worked at a few multi line dealers that sold Yamaha's too. So, I am a little fuzzy on how Yamaha used their...

    Help reading plugs?

First off, looking at plug color is a waste of time! The reason spark plugs use to develope color was because of the lead in the gasoline. But you are running unleaded, so the only thing that adds color to the spark plug is your premix, and it is a poor substitute! Your carb base gaskets and...

DIY Total loss or MSD TL upgrade box 270USD?

I am building a custom flywheel with 2 pickup coils for the Zeel PDCI-232. I am using a PJS 750 aluminum flywheel used in the 93' world tour. The flywheel is a flat (platter style) flywheel that is basically just a starter ring gear. We made a new mount for the 2 pickup coils that mount to the...

Because I am anal retentive and people are relying on me to tell them how to build this. Wax, my comments were directed towards Beerdart. I thought that was obvious. The difference between your method and the pdf document is that you measured the difference of the pick-up coil, located in relation to tdc. If the reluctor begins at 47 deg btdc, your measurement would be correct. The pdf is instructing us to measure where the reluctor begins in relation to...

DIY Total loss or MSD TL upgrade box 270USD?

Yes! For example: The 750 small pin, 750/800 big pin, 1100zxi all have different ignition timing. If the pick-up coil is in the same place, then the flywheels and their reluctors must be different. At the very least the idle position will be different. Something that is relatively easy to...
