Im sure it was more lack of knowledge than lazyness. How many jetski owners are trained mechanics or engineers? How many acquire and read a shop manual before they start turning bolts? Its really sad when a MFG (polaris) omits sealant on fasteners.
Whats wrong with a Superjet? Thats an easy question to answer. A Superjet is limited to barrel rolls, which were the coolest trick until someone did a backflip. The price of being cool went from $3000 to $15,000 instantly. There lies our basic dilemma, "keeping up with the Joneses".
I have made these POS heads seal on 650-750s, they are easier on 650s but a real challenge on 750s. The problem is that the dome surfaces get either worn, scratched, or dented making them impossible to seal. You will know when the pisser stream is not steady. An easy fix is using two stock 650...
Employee = wage slave, most people realize this and act accordingly. Pay them by the job and production will be good. BTW how well did Kevlar work for you? I never found it suitable for bending loads.
A stock 44 is already plenty for that application. A larger carb will tend to accelerate slightly better but also go rich sooner so top rpm remain flat. You can compensate by setting the pilot much richer and power tuning the top screw for a slight rpm increase. Problem with this is fuel...
For a single carb setup, the N/S should have more area than all the orifices down stream. A 2.3 is plenty of area and with a 65G spring makes for plenty low popoff. Judge the pilot mixture by how much the engine sputters at steady 1/4 throttle, a 120 will sound clean but may tend to hesitate...
I would use HDPE if the bottom was getting serious damage. For mild scratching and scuffing I would just roll on a thick coat of polyurethane paint every season.
The schrader valve is the wear item in a compression gauge. Just check the gauge against your air compressor and change the valve every couple of years. Even expensive gauges need to be resealed for consistent readings. If the extension is used between the hose and head it will read low.
Those old 750s are fine rec skis. People get very focused and want to excel at their chosen activity . The 750s dont fit in these days since nobody wants to drag race or set up a tight slalom course, this is where the old hull does fairly well. If you want to be at the cutting edge of cool, just...
Dont be scared, it is a great product with one potential problem. Now everyone knows what to look for and its nothing that a few minutes with fine sand paper cant fix.
