What about rounding off and lowering the back "apex" of the hood more, so it's more of an elliptical and even shape with the front of the hood, and rounding off the back "apex" of the gunwales some, without a huge down ramp toward the hood like most people are doing after the sxr's.?

They do, if they only have bolt-on bs, or, whoever did the cylinder work didn't know what they were doing.

You could probably squeeze that much out of an 1100 with porting, compression, timing etc... A stock 550 is only worth around 40, while a T-3 ported 550cc was supposedly throwing out 100+.

Yeah, the 44's I think can be mounted sideways for extra clearance between them. Not so for the 38's though.
