I used a jet dynamics plate and drilled/countersunk my own holes. Not too hard and certainly doesn't have to be perfect to work. I get what you're saying though..

How deep does it have to sink before the pressure is able to automatically inflate the buoy?

Speaking of skis the buzzard now owns.

Basically it can turn the siphon into something similar to a cooling line.

If the tube thing (left side of pic) that sticks out into the pump is cut off when the nozzle is bored it then pushes water into the hole instead of causing a siphon. If you still have the tube it's something else... EDIT: didn't know about routing it differently.
