i don't know it all, but if it starts ok i think you should be ok. I have had chipped reeds cause hard starting conditions where you gotta crank & crank & crank it to get it to fire and i suppose an excess gap is doing the same thing.

manual says spec allows for 0.2mm gap on the reed pedals...are you within that?

what about using one of the old yellow SN tool kit cylinders to put the extinguisher in, that way it is sealed up just in case and you could mount that to the inside hood liner. I think that may even be how the SN were setup from the factory.
