    Paint how to thread

Seems like every brand, even type, of paint wants a bit different pressure. That Pettit white that I shot only wanted around 35psi. The PPG I put on my wife's Superjet was shot at around 50psi. I like to have a piece of cardboard handy against a wall for sprayout and pattern testing every time I...

550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

Thanks @john zigler for great customer service. I e-mailed him yesterday about this issue and he called me first thing this morning to take care of it. New impeller is on the way! I assure everybody watching.......if there's a 1 in a million chance of getting a bad part.......I'm the guy that...

550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

I just came in, I'm just exhausted. Temp in my shop.....in front of fans..= miserable! Anyway, I got some brackets screwed down. I got some pads cut and glued down. I marked and V cut the center pad under the gas tank so it would sit flat in the hull. Got the waterbox strapped in and exhaust...

550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

I know right? I've had hundreds upon hundreds of jet pumps apart and hundreds of new impellers installed and NEVER seen this one either. Imagine trying to align an engine to that...... If there was a problem YO I'll solve it.....

550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

Great! Now I can align the rest and bolt the engine in.......NOPE!! I spent the next couple hours trying to do just that. Motor in and out, driveshaft support hanging there ready to be siliconed and bolted up. I'd have good alignment.....then I wouldn't. Try again, motor out, motor back in...

550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

I chucked up a coarse rotoloc disc in the die grinder and "filed the spline edges. I also took a small triangular file to the inside edges of the splines as they appeared "off" a bit. Call this poor workmanship, dull cutting edges at the factory, a Friday afternoon, WHATEVER, but the shaft now...

550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

Ok, so I've been fighting with this thing all morning. I'm VERY frustrated at this point. I need to get this project done so I got my fancy measuring sticks out came to the conclusion the driveshaft seemed to be about .002" to big, at least towards the end of the splines. I marked it up with a...

550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

Also noteworthy is that I drilled out the stock brass water fitting in the jet pump. I could just barely shove a 7/32 drill bit into the fitting. There's plenty of material there to take it out to a true 1/4" i.d. Hmmm, 7/32 to 8/32 sure doesn't sound like much.....it can't possibly make any...

550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

I spent about 3 hours gathering various bolts out of marked zip-lock bags and painting some misc parts today. Then about 2 hours mounting the 750 pump. WELL....it doesn't just BOLT RIGHT UP with the kit. As expected, I had to fine tune the bolt holes to get the pump lined up nice with the...

300/440/550 Runs for an hour then starts to bog

Ok, you should pull the fuel pickups out of the gas tank. Submerge in a bucket of water and blow air into where the fuel lines hook up. I've seen several that have cracked near the top. As soon as the fuel gets below the cracked area it sucks air into the line causing lean running and bogging.

Did you fill the gas tank up each time by any chance?

    Freestyle Iridium spark plugs

I have run, and like, the Autolite XS4063. They will just go forever without fouling. The Seadoo 787 rfi is hard on spark plugs and the XS4063 seems to last much longer in those as well. I've also noticed quicker starting and improved idle with those plugs. The ones in my 650sx have been in...

    Other Xlt1200 keeps melting pistons

One single 1200 power valve setup has ever left my shop without D-plate and chip. The customer had bought an 800 and 1200 brand new and wanted them to stay oem spec. I installed a new old stock oem converter for him.

    Fuel line! How much?

Uusally the stretchy tupe stuff is Neoprene. Pretty good stuff as well but tends to start breaking down from the inside if constantly running ethanol fuels. You start getting carbon black powder inside the carbs. It takes a while though (a few years) and I've not seen it happen when used with...

    Fuel line! How much?

Vinyl based fuel lines get hard. PVC based can stay soft OR become hard depending on the composition. Silicone based will stay soft but tend to get softer, even sticky or gooey. (the stock black stuff found on chainsaws and weedeaters) Polyurethane line works fine, stays soft for 5+ years and...

Disclaimer....I've NEVER installed an SBT engine or top end for any customer and NEVER will. I HAVE, however, repaired dozens. Many of them BARELY out of warranty.

    Seadoo HX

Back on topic.......I have a pretty nice '96 HX that I've been trying to put back together forever. Butterfly ported cases, ported cylinders, port matched intake, modified rotary valve, milled and re-squished head, lightened flywheel and PTO, Rossier pipe, Westcoast F/A, and an RFI large hub...

    Techniques for removing cylinder sleeves

I agree. I just did 3 in a Yamaha 1200 65u cylinder. Word of advice...cook them at 300 for 20 minutes or so outside in the grill first. All the oil that is INSIDE the metals will burn off BEFORE you bring it inside the house and use the oven.
