    Broken piston

Sorry for the crappy pics. I have a crappy camera. So, do I want to put roughly a 1/16 x 45 degree chamfer? I was running 93 and someone told me it would run better on 87 because of the low compression??? I will be going back to my 93.

    Broken piston

There is heavy scuffing from the center of the intake side all the way to the wrist pin. Some very light scuffing on the two conrners of the exhaust side. The one corner has no scuffing. This was the front cyl. No I didn't do a leak down test.

    Broken piston

That chunk at the top of the port was machined in, it is on both sides.

    Broken piston

Yeah, I think the formula is a max. of 70% of the bore dia. These exhaust ports are under that.

    Broken piston

I think I need to put more of a chamfer on the exhaust ports. Why do you say to resleeve?
  12. SJet

    Broken piston

Well, I guess I could go up one size on the low speed jet.
  13. SJet

    Broken piston

Yeah, that mess on the top of the piston is the chunk of piston and ring that broke off. I'll try to get some better pics.

    Broken piston

I don't think there was any deto. (See other piston) Comp was 150, 87 octane, timing was 1 degree advanced. Shouldn't this have been alright?

    Broken piston

These are Pro X pistons. I thought .006" would be perfect. The other piston is fine. I was running really low comp. It was at 150lbs. Here's a couple of pics of the other piston.
  16. SJet

    Broken piston

Well, I had .006" clearance, so that should have been fine. Here is a couple of pics of the exhaust port. Maybe there should be more chamfer, but it looked alright??
  17. SJet

    Broken piston

Well, I just built this big bore 61x motor. I had about 5 hrs on it, and then a chunk of the piston by the exhaust port broke off. I would like to find out what caused this. Any ideas??

    drypipe coupler

I know what you mean, I have a dry pipe too. What a pain in the ??? If you want to get that thing running for the weekend, go to Bades Marine in Port Franks, (just past Ipperwash) Ask for a foot of 3.5" ID wet exhaust hose. It's about $20.00. I find this stuff doesn't last very long in my boat...

3 Degrees in the right direction?

So, is the pic at the start of this thread showing advanced timing?
