Yeah that's an old school technique using soap or wax even for circular/band saw blades to keep it from sticking. We do alot of galvanized metal work here in marine piling / dock fabrication ect. and we will use aluminum grinding wheel's on the hot dipped galvanizing because it will not gum up...
Buy a new one from Mark Gomez/Fearlessnut's and sell that one! Mark has some killer deal's right now unless you do all your own tig welding, I think it would be almost as cheap to buy a new one from him than to hire a fab shop to shorten that one?????
I just got a Blowsion spring for a RN with an AC pole. On the direction's it show's and talk's about an rrp pole spring install, Sorry I am not much help on the RRP however you could call Blowsion and ask them Sorry it doesn't look like you are getting much help here!

So you adjusted the carb's and the ski came to life but after one trip around the lake it started running like crap again! I would look into the carb's a little deeper how long has it been since they were rebuilt? You might have a needle seat issue going on. Go ahead and try what Matt said...
The entire pump area is going to get real messy from 2 stroke GOO. I have a little seapoo xp 580 and it dump's there also not really a big deal until you need to work on the pump, steering, cooling hoses, ect. then it's a real mess.
