Before I put my straps in, I road around awhile testing different positions. It turned out to be close to what I do on a skate board. Pancake Pete's front foot hold looks good too or tom21's, then you could switch feet.
To get a more accurate test you need beat the foam up some while in the water. Bust some cells like you would on a good wave day. My guess is the water gets in 1 or 2 mils, then starts moving in with more pounding.
It seem theres at list three ways to do this. 1 The way you did it, me and probably others too (hi failure rate). 2 Seal the hell out of it (takes lots of determination). 3 Use polystyrene, and drain plugs cant hurt.
A few years ago I bought some gelcoat from west marine that had the wax already added, I don't think they sell it anymore. It held good for a few years.
