It was found at least 20 miles upriver from the dam in question. Like mydixiewrecked says, it was very close to a popular campground. I've ridden there in 2010 or 2011.
Some other stuff is starting to surface...
Registration is said to be from 2010. You can buy them ahead of time, but I've never known standup owners to be that proactive about it. So my guess is that it went down in Summer 2009 or, far more likely, Summer 2010
A large hydroelectric dam on the Columbia River has recently been discovered to have a serious crack in one of the spillway monoliths - 2 inches wide, 65 feet long, causing visible bowing of the dam at the very top...
I don't think it is common. Like I said, I've shipped across the country twice for approximately $300 each time, with similar weights to what you posted, since late 2012. I think you're getting f'd on that shipping price, but it's hardly the shippers fault. To get accurate quotes, you need to...
The pricing structure doesn't have to be linear. Try shipping 1lb via USPS. Now ship 100lbs and see if the price is exactly 100x the first price.
Who is at fault? Well - Honestly, whoever estimated that a hull, let alone a Rickter, has a 150lbs shipping weight was flat out wrong. But, if...
1. A properly crated hull, even a lightweight one - and a Rickter is definitely not in that category - will tip the scales at 300lbs. I've shipped a carbon Freak and a carbon FR and both crates weighed about 300lbs.
2. The shipping company can and will adjust scale weight to take crate...
Done it, breaks in just fine with synthetic. Rings do seat, compression goes up slightly after a couple of hours. In my case, there was no discernible difference between break-in with mineral vs synthetic oil (Amsoil Dominator)
Oil in the bore isn't going to make 35 cc domes blow 210 psi, unless you have an ounce of it sloshing on the crown.
Either the domes are smaller than 35cc or the gauge is poop.
End of March, the Pacific City ride.
Early August, Grayland Open.
Early September, Surf Slam
From May through September, a handful of flatwater race & freestyle events.
It is on the list. Has been for a while.
TheJet: Like I said, Seattle/Portland area. Make it to some rides. You can't expect all those hulls directly in your backyard, available to you with zero effort
whatchoo talking 'bout Willis? You're in the Moses Lake area, if I am not mistaken. That means that within 150 miles of you there are people with these hulls:
Superfreak Badass
Rickter FR2
Rickter EVO1
Footrocket
EME Q8
WDK ROK-R
Vision
Backie Chan
Various BOB's
Trinity Matrix
Probably more...
