Being in Florida too there is a huge marine demographic , you could always try and be friend a boat top/upholsterer and get them to teach you the trade. Likely will never be out of work, that sun/uv damage destroys things quick.

The washer is suppose to bottom out on the lip of the driveshaft and in theory is not suppose to touch the seals or the hub...than the impeller tightens up against it

sounds like it is jamming up against the seals when you tighten it all down or on the hub...why is there a screw in it?

If your handy and it sounds like you are, you may want to think outside of the box from what your already been thinking. With your knowledge and contacts in auto you might want to consider the leather/vinyl/plastic/upholstery repair industry. There may or may not be opportunities in your area...

Overpriced imo...the xfs is a much better deal, and way more power, bigger pump, an actual desirable hull

I would stay away from it personally...very small hull and has a Polaris motor. Better options imo...
