  • Hey Chuckie, I was wondering if it would affect my 61x cylinders if I cleared out the aluminum behind the intake ports the sleeve openings seem to be much larger than the opening in the block behind them? Thanks in advance

Hey Chuckie - I have a cyl that you bored to 3.381" and over time the deck has been touched up so now I have very slight piston head contact with the inner o ring wall with .020" squish clearance.
Is it possible to open the squish diameter .015" (along with the obvious .020" to get the proper squish) ?
I don't know if removing the.015" off of the .050" thick wall will cause issues with sealing down the line?
Or am I better off removing the .020" off the top of the pistons allowing hassle free changing of domes down the line?

Hi Chuckie, My name is Mike and I work with Josh (aircraftsalz). He and Chris (jetmaniac) both told me that I should contact you about an issue that I'm having with my carbs on my XL700. It is bored 2mm over so I should now be at 735cc. What is happening is that when I ride wide open it runs for 30 to 40 seconds or so and then just flat out dies. I can still hear the motor turning over. I was attempting to tune it last weekend and had it to where the main jet needles are adjusted to about 4 turns out so I would think that it should be getting plenty of fuel. The next thing that I did was to immediately pull the plugs to see how they look when it dies, they came out a light cinnamon color and bone dry. The ski runs great as long as you don't go past about 3/4 throttle. The ski does have the original SBN 38's (just rebuilt with kits that I got from Chris) Any ideas? I'm going to pull the carbs now to figure out what jets it has. Thank you in advance for your help, Mike.
