If you must have a disconnect, use a Deutsch connector or GM weather pack connector.

I don't like running exposed connectors, Freshwater only... OK, but with weather proof type only.
So none is my answer and NEVER for a salt water ski!

Weather pack connectors for stator and start/stop circuit work great have had them for a few years now without issue. Purchased mine from McMaster Carr make sure you purchase the correct crimping tool and removal tool. This is in fresh water.

matt, i feel like you saying that its a bad idea to use a conector. it would be convenient but is it really worth it?

I think it's more of a pain to put a connector on than it is to take the two ebox nuts off when you take the motor out.
JMHO.

I like them because I can remove the ebox and not remove the stator like now when I need to put in a new box gasket and all I have to do is unplug the electrical box for bench work. I also have the remote positive battery cable connections from JSS.

I use gm weatherpack connectors. I've swamped my boat un the surf several times too. Zero problems. And very convient and they work great. I actually found 5pin weatherpacks on ebay too.

I have replaced both my JSS stator with quick disconnects and the JSS battery disconnects. My stator is straight now and my battery leads are back in the ebox were they belong. While they may sound convenient, every connection point is a possible fail point.

My JSS stator connections sat in the bottom of my hull with no issues but the battery disconnects kept corroding over to the metal backing of my ebox and powering up my finger throttle. Now everything possible is sealed and secure inside the ebox again...Hence the "tidy bilge" was born.

Just my opinion, of course - I find that once the new ebox gasket is properly installed with some sealant, there is no need to replace it until the next time you open the box for some other reason. I've never had to replace the gasket as a "just because" maintenance item. I'd rather make sure my stuff is in good condition instead of preparing my ski for ease of frequent maintenance. JMHO of course. YMMV.

I've done the JSS quick disconnect for the stator and external battery terminal studs and I ride 100% salt. Its been over 2 years and I've had 0 problems.

Granted anytime my ski is apart I re grease each every connection.

If I had to do it over again I probably wouldn't do all the quick disconnects, but I'm happy with them so far.

At the time when I did the disconnects I was still dialing in my ski, so it seemed like I was taking it apart every other weekend, but now I practically never touch my ski besides to ride it.

Silcone dielectric grease and proper flushing go a long way in salt water. I was always driving 4-6 hrs home after riding surf all day and sometimes couldn't get to do a proper flush for a day or two after. Spraying an engine down with wd-40 only slows it down not stops it. I added a 26 gallon fresh water tank to my trailer so I do everything right at the launch now.
