X Slide in St. Martin...two thumbs up!

So, just got married on June 6th, and for our honeymoon we did a cruise to St. Martin, St. Thomas and Grand Turk out of Fort Lauderdale.

We didn't have anything planned for St. Martin, so we hired a nice lady and her taxi to take us around the island and see if we could find the folks at X Slide...what a great experience!

Kris & Fab were both very friendly (hope I spelled your names right!), and I went for a quick spin on one of their prepared skis (kevlar reinforced, head, pipe, footholds, pole, etc). "Quick" is right since my back was killing me from the $@%! bed on the ship, and I didn't want to throw out my back...I was only out there for 15 minutes, and I really only putted around and did a few small jumps. But it was a blast, and I can't wait to go back and spend a few days there.

Anybody thinking of taking a vacation or cruise to the Caribbean, you've GOT to make a stop in St. Martin to see Kris & Fab at X Slide!

They're located up in Orient Bay...tell any taxi driver to take you to the Boo Boo Jam bar, they're right next door.

So does anyone have a good way of contacting Kris and Fab in st martin.l pm them some time back and no reply.l don't have a myspace acct,so that's out too!

contact them on their website xslide.com Ive been there a few times,By cruise ship its MUCH cheaper, but you will only get to spend one day and the ship leaves port,Staying there on the french side, its very old school, you will have to stay in a rental house, they dont come cheap, especially when you factor in the loss on the euro conversion makes eating expensive also, thats getting a little better each yr,Ill go back some day if the conversion is ever equal or better yet the dollar is worth more.then i bet all the sudden the french side would convert to the dollar and drop the euro like a bad habit.............
Staying there is alot of fun though you will get to see and know alot more about the island and spend more time riding surf

I was just there a couple months ago. There's more than a few resorts and hotels. I wasn't able to get in touch with Xslide though. I stayed at Oyster Bay Beach Resort on Dawn Beach. There's a Westin there as well. It's only 10 minutes from Orient Bay. Rent a car if you're there. You can get a small car for $30 a day. One cab ride will cost $20 to $30 at least. We drove all the way around the island a couple times. Grand Case is only 15 minutes from Orient Bay. Phillipsburg and Simpson Bay are more crowded(bars, restaurants, shops) but 30 to 45 minutes from Orient Bay. Let me know if you have any questions. I can tell you some places to visit. It's easy to find your way around.

I flew into Simpson Bay Julian Airport. There's an airport in Grand Case as well, but it cost more. Restaurants and activities didn't cost too much. Dinner was $30 to $40 a couple. You could certainly spend more. Two tank dive trips were $80 with all the gear. A 4 hour rhino ride(small two person boat kinda like a couch) was $60 per person. They'll pick you up at the resorts for $5 round trip. I'd definitely go back.

all most all flights transfer out of puerto rico to St Martin, getting a flight in to there isnt much even from cali, but they charge the same amount for a little island jumper prop plane from there to St Martin. The dutch side has all the commercial hotels, but I didnt wana stay there and deal with the traffic getting over to xslide on the french side everyday. I went in season when its cooler and better odds for surf, but lots traffic then also. They have mostly time share type apartments and such close to orient beach, they are nice but $..... Kris got us a good deal round 1k for 4 nights. Like she said though the euro has fallen off in the last yr so its better now.in another yr or so it might be great. If it continues to fall im sure they will do great over there as more and more tourists will be going over to that side. It was great fun being there,I wish you could get cruise ships that sailed to just St martin and stayed a few days and docked on the french side. That would be more budget friendly especially if you lived close to FL.

Wow,it sounds like they have really adjusted prices for the euro or the state of economy. Are those prices for in season or now? I wish it had worked out for us in that place,it had a awesome view.Since the lodging is so cheap now It would prolly help you here on the X alot to post any discounted flights into St Martin from the States you know of,Maybe they are making adjustments there as well. Also rates for skis and surf reports for the island,That website Fab was using for reports in the Caribbean was great,I forgot the name of it. I would love to come again in the winter, especially if the euro continues to balance to the dollar.Think it was 1 euro to 1.48 dollar last time I was there, its 1euro to 1.22 dollar now.You would have a ton of americans over there if the reverse was true
