300/440/550 300sx in a 87 440 hull

I recently bought a ski that has a 300sx motor in a 87 440 hull, the motor runs great but the pump is out of the ski at the moment. The guy i bought it from said i have to shim it because the prop was hiiting the inside of the pump , how do i go about doing this? Thanks.

Don't wast your time. You need special tools. Besides you will most likely open a can of worms. Best to go buy a newer not hacked up ski.

Thats not a hacked up ski its called a JS300B model,it is exactly that a 300 motor in a 440 hull.If you need a pump housing let me know , I am getting rid off all the 440-550 stuff here.

So is it a js300 or a 440 with a 300 swapped in? Basicly the same thing, Beside the point, Ether way it is a POS!

you are needing to shim the bearing box at the front of the drive line, between the bearing box mounting flange and the bulkhead of the hull. using different thicknesses of shims to get the end of the drive line that the prop threads on to, centered properly so the prop doesn't rub. when you get it adjusted to the right setting, you remove everything again and seal the flange and shims to the bulkhead with clear silicone.

The last one I looked at had the shims under the pump mounts.

I guess either way, or maybe a combinatin of both.

Not sure what "special tools" KAWI550SX is referring to - please enlighten us.

You call the ski a POS - That means you have actual experience with them, right?

Well, impellers usually don't just start rubbing for no reason. Are you guys physic? Do you know the guy that sold him the ski? The dude probably sold him the ski because he sucked a rock in to the pump, bending the pump housing causing the the impeller to rub. Or he has a bearing or many bearings going out. A ski that is that old, that has been ridden enough to do a motor swap most likely needs some bearings. Put some wsm bearing in it they will last half a season. Or go Oem and he can spend twice what the ski is worth. The right way of installing bearings is a PRESS, not a hammer and socket. Old skis in general are a can of worms, not to mention if some hick has enough time on his hands to put a 300 in any hull. So I am trying to save the guy a bunch of time and headache. Shame on me. I am giving him the best advise here, Get yourself a newer, better ski. if your going to waste time working on something make sure it will be at least fast and fun to ride when it is done. Do you guys waste you time working on junk like this? Don't try to give me a bunch of :):):):) because you wan to sell him some of your old cr*p, while pretending to be helpfull. I got a lot of old cr*p as well, I usually just GIVE it away.

I am defiantly not physic but how do you know it has had a motor swap? The impeller is rubbing either because someone took it apart and left some shims out or the wear ring is swollen, in either case it needs to be disassembled for further inspection. 440 drivelines are finicky , the bearing housing has to be shimmed to the hull tolocate the shaft properly then the pump has to be shimmed to the shaft , in that order. All I am trying to do is answer this guys questions, I don't really understand what you are trying to do here but please check your attitude at the door before re entering this thread.

I bought this ski and another 550 that runs perfect for $250. the story was that he had a extra 440 hull and a running 300sx motor so he just put them together tho motor starts and runs fine without the pump in, he just said he never got around to shimming it. i was just hoping to get it to run and have it as a spare for my brother of friend

yeah, if you got someone putting skis together that doesn't know wtf their doing, then you end up with some jacked up skis for one reason or another, usually..

The 300SX exhaust is totally different as are the engine mounts, yes it could be done but it is doubtful someone would go to the trouble of sourcing all the correct parts to do this, if it has an oil tank on it its a Js300B model, if not its some jacked together BS that someone stuck together to try and make a buck.
