Best Engine out there

There are lighter/shorter hulls out there now that will backflip with a stock engine as well but as mentioned above, the super lightweight hulls won't be as durable for learning on and also are more suited for flatwater. Plate to plate isn't that hard on a ski but landing on the side will punish even the best hulls.

I'm going to say that a healthy compromise of both worlds would be ideal, 20-30lbs lighter than a stock SJ and a ported stock stroke bigbore powerplant would be a pretty hard setup to beat.

an engine that would allow me to do some small wave back flips would be nice too!
:headbang:
your motor will flip just fine, but i wouldnt recommend learning flips on small waves. on this coast if the waves 4 foot its about that deep where it breaks.

Well no.... I mainly ride surf out in the NJ inlets HOWEVER, it would be sweet to pull a backflip off the boat wakes in the bay area.

Sorry for the confusion!

so you have a stock sj + b-pipe and $3000 to spend?

the fiberglass after-market hulls are more than that.

call x-scream or your preferred engine builder. make sure you allocate money for a new impeller or mag pump the builder should be able to tell you what you need. i would think using your current engine will get you the best bang for your buck.

ok thats what i though, i stand by my original comment.
get a motor you can afford in a freeride setup, an impeller to match it, trim if you really want to do a wake flip.

I did fail to mention I did get a solas impeller from blowsion that did make a world of a difference and along with a D-Cut plate and Stainless Grate. for what its worth....

Thanks for the advice though!

im sure you know but if you do go with a much more powerful motor you will need to get another impeller to take advantage of it. or at least a repitch, but i think that only goes so far.
