Best Engine out there

Looking to venture of sometime over the next year and to a engine overhaul!

I ride pretty much surf and mess'n around jump'n wakes in the bay, you know the deal! :

Where do I start?... I think XMetal's look SICK but how do I know how big to go? Is bigger better?

Also, when replacing an engine... is it quick an easy by pretty much popping it out and sticking the new one in or do I need a crap load of extra parts?

To be honest I'm not the most engine savy person on earth (as you can probably tell)even though I have been riding for a long time know. Where do I begin?

PS. an engine that would allow me to do some small wave back flips would be nice too!

Thanks for all the advice! I just would like to start getting some thoughts together for y next project!:headbang:

1) Budget will be the ultimate deciding factor. You can always grow balls to match your power later
2) Don't feel bad if you can't afford a SS865, X-Scream can make a stock cylinder rip your arms off too
3) 1000cc's is crazy power reserved for absolute die hard riders.

Call and talk to whomever you decide to go with, they will take your budget and work with you to get the best possible setup for the $$. If you send them your entire engine, it will come back in one piece with instructions on how to hook everything back up and how to fine tune the carbs as well.

I should also mention that the SS865 is pretty badazz to ride even in a heavy SJ hull but is absolutely insane in a lightweight hull with a Mag pump and likely to be more than enough power for the rest of my life.

^^^^ x2

You will need certain pump upgrades which will depend on how crazy you get with the motor.
Motor upgrades can depend upon what carbs/intake, iginition setup and exhaust too.

XScream's Big bore motor and even their standard 61X ported motors are VERY reasonable.

Try to put together a rough budget (which can be difficult if you do not know what you "need") and then call your favorite engine builder.

no you don't,
but I will tell something boy, big power makes even more fun
I cant afford one right now, but I will buy a XS 1000cc for my surf ski:Banane57:
Yes, but you fall into the category of "insane" and are far from being a typical rider. :439:

You need the 1000cc's just to carry your balls around most days! LOL

My engine now is fairly stock + B-pipe pretty much so what would they do to my engine to make it "rip my arms off"? Cause that sounds like fun! lol I would def looks into around 3G's????? (But possibly more!) I just do not know what stuff like that costs.

which would cost around $12-14K

That's why i mentioned an aftermarket hull. A lighter hull requires way less engine, less engine requires less maintenance and everything gets cheaper from there.

Good Point! However, I hear that too light of a hull isn't the way to go for surf?....right?

if your practcing tricks with a lw hull you will break it if you have already learnt those tricks and you get one your ok

1000cc need maintainance so keep that in mind id say an inspection every 5 months and a strip down every season

Crazy light is more expensive anyways. I chose the Trinity Matrix at 95 lbs, knowing the pro version was crazy light and that much more expensive. I ride mostly surf and already had a ported 760 so instead of upgrading to the SS865 I decided that the Matrix was a better move. Luckily my wife decided that one just needed the other and I ended up getting both anyways. :sneaky:

Any engine can be reliable if cared for correctly but usually there's a trade off between power and just how much care is required. The SS865's have been proving to be pretty reliable so far but so have the strokers so that's a tough arguement.

Out of curiosity... what if the 95lb matrix hull had a stock 701 + b-pipe... what that make a world of a difference alone with the power because of the weight loss? And would everything fit perfectly or would I need to get a sh*t load of new parts?

I'm trying to see my options and what would be my best bet ya know...but at the same time having it very reliable with the least amount of maintenance possible!

buy what you can afford. 1000cc is ALOT of power. not needed for anything but flatwater backflip stuff. the 865 or whatever is probly what you want, but really you should just go get whatever you can afford. call up a few builders and see what they can do for you within your budget. be sure to tell them you want reliability aswell.
you dont want a light/flatwater hull in the surf, it will be to unstable for anything but doing tiny overrotated backflips. not to mention destroying a expensive hull because you took it past the limits of what its supposed to do.
