When that happens to me, I think the same thing. Then just before I hit the start button I think to myself if it would be wiser to just be pulled into the beach to pull the plugs first vs. hitting the button. I would hate to bend a rod on one of those manuvers.

I've never seen battery power bend a connecting rod with a hydro locked motor, only when you ingest it while running. This has happened to me twice before i did the hood mod to my square..
Lot of peeps think its the trying to start the motor once you got water in there that bent the rod, but actually it happened before it died..

Hmm. I never thought of that. Seems quite plausible though. Thanks for the insight.

I think so too.

Ive hydrolocked a few of my engines a few times ( LOTS actually)

no harm done. even the engine in my wifes truck! haha

the stater isnt strong enough to bend a rod, luckily I think.

For the surf, as long as the motor is smooth and has a nice smooth predictable powerband you are good. :headbang: It is flatwater guys that like the nuts dislocate your shoulder power.......however when you do that allot of cool tricks are achually risky to do b/c the ski is allot less forgiving w/ more power.

more power in the surf is a good thing.. I came from the 61-x bla bla world (sucks).... Not going back to that weak ass power after ripping on my Magoo big bore... The is the problem in hand... People want to compare flatwater to surf, well, there is alot more to it than that... Florida happens to have 1-3ft waves 90% of the time... This is not too far off from flatwater IMO, you need the power to do big rolls off smaller waves and to get around on small backy's... I don't ride 10ft faces every day... maybe 4 times a year, if I'm lucky... and ya know what?... That power works pretty well under those conditions too... the bigger the wave the faster the wave moves the more power you will want/need to navigate and get out of trouble...

a side note: when I got my magoo motor it was very jerky to me and I couldn't ride smooth, cause the ski was soooo much more powerful... guess what I did??? I adjusted, like anyone would, got better and now I can use the power and my setup times are much shorter, I can roll off a 1ft roller and so on... the advantages of power outweigh the risk anyday IMO

Thanks for the writeup slut. Some of us like to sit in our own little ignorant worlds were spending the extra buck is not worth it. :irked: torr, the price of that ski is going to go up a couple bucks when you figure what you need to put into your VA ski to make it compareably fun!

Its not when you are turning it over that it bends the rods, its right when one cylinder actually fires off that it does it........... Happened to me afew years ago...............

Good 2 cent Slut. I think I will be dropping my bigbore motor straight into my SJ, rather then putting it in my B1. The power is pretty good on my limited SJ, but I would like more as I ride alot of flatwater during the week. 90% of having all that power is throttle control. Tailstands are great for learning that! I am use to arm ripping power from riding Motocross though anyways.

If you ride alot you will adapt fast. If you ride once a month you will never adapt. Brraaaap!

the harder you push the faster you progress........:Banane01:

BJ,Im done modding the Va ski as far as power goes,it might be the other way around with the stroker ski,it will need all the hull mods that I just did on this one, tubbies, new plate and front hold. A stock elec system, new domes and possibly bigger footholds.
