SN VS RN: What does an extra 23hp do?

I have a 650 SN, and thinking of upgrading to the 701 RN. The 62T lists 73hp and the 650 lists 50hp. I know the hulls aren't that much different, but what is the extra 23hp going to do for me? Jump higher? Sub better? Launch better? etc. The upgrade really seems to be about the 'power' more than anything.

That is almost a 50% increase in power. It would be so much of an increase you will have to learn how to ride again. Then throw on a pipe and a head when you swap them out and you won't be able to ride it for grinning

Increasing power in one jump like that makes you grin while riding...until you get used to it then you need more power.... and so on and so on....

There's another 701 that is rated at 63hp (it has a single carb on it, and looks similar to your 650 engine). This motor's a no brainer upgrade, it has a lot more "grunt" to it. The 73hp engine doesn't feel much different than the 63hp (61X) engine, in my experience. It has the same cylinder and same pistons.

Thats what i did the only real difference in a rn hull is looks right?

haha, yes, and pivot point of the handle pole. pretty small differences. i guess a 61x is a option, i do like the looks of the RN better, but if its worth the 1250, probably not. haha, you guys make it sound so easy to get a 61x in good shape, i am not a good rebuilder of engines, etc. if you see a bunch of 61x's for sale, let me know. i do think sadly i could get my money back out of a rn easier than a SN with 61x, sadly I guess because the looks.

SN with 701 61x - 1300 est
RN with 701 62T - 2200 est

I am all about 'investment'. I guess if i find a 61x that is cherry and cheap, it would be an option. However, the sexiness of the RN and resell value may help me.

Than you are at a wrong site.

Do a Google search for Dave Ramsey and give him a call. He will tell you to never buy a jetski.

hahah or suze orman. its alright, actually i get money back on my jetskis, i lose money on my vehicles. i will say im not extreme rider doing huge backies with fancy hulls and strokers, so i just get my stock skis, ride em, and sell them for about the same price, and im perfectly content. honestly, i have about 50 different hobbies, so i just enjoy each one in a moderate way without going too extreme.

dude i would jump on that round for 2500... its worth 3500 i the summer. if its still there next week when i get back from Peru I am going to pick it up.

I like the nose bond line on the round much more! it is way smoother and makes the boat feel a little different.

Thanks J, ya, i think most people agree the RN is 'sexier' w/ the lines. Ya, seems like a fair deal. Again, its 'how much I need a RN' and what im going to be able to do out on the water with it that is so much different than my 650 SN. Just jump higher? 180 stabs like i dream? haha.

You could always buy a pipe and put in on your 650 till you get a 701 motor then swap the pipe over to the 701 motor. Depending on how soon you can get the 701 motor you could get your 650 head shaved .030 or so. I have my local machine shop do it and he only charges me $30.

Im gonna go against the grind here.

I personally would recommend just buying the RN and being done with the ordeal.

Buy the RN for $2500, list your SN for $1000-1500 and only still have roughly the same amount "invested" as if you did the motor swap, but yet you would have a RN ski instead of the SN.

Just my opinion. If you are wanting a RN now, you will still be wanting a RN later even if you have the bigger motor in your SN.

Oh..and if you do wait and decide to just upgrade your SN to a 701...remember that down the road you will easily have $1k into a nice hull with the other stuff. I bought my RN hull for $700, however still had to get a hood seal, pole bracket, pivot bolt, all steering and still looking for a reasonably price RN waterbox...probably just going to run the SN one.
