this keeps popping up, after our old laptop got fried, I am skeptical of stuff that I can not figure out what it is.

Even though it is Java stuff (I think)...no it is not safe to update because java is not safe. I don't allow it on my machines and I have seen very few sites that require it these days. Because they (java) have a bad track record for keeping their servers secure and developers have figured that out (finally) and gotten away from it.

So how do you get rid of all the JAVA crap?
Also, in general, any time you get pop-ups like this or unknown processes, do a Google search on them. There are numerous sites that describe the process and what it does. I second CCleaner. If you're running Windows, Microsoft Anti-Spyware cleanup tools are great too (no need to have MS Anti Spyware running 24/7 on your computer) and the old AdAware is pretty good to and seems to have frequent downloadable updates. Al of these are free.

I did a search a week ago, but could not get enough definiative info. Some said it was save, others said depending on where it comes from......... blah blah blah
If you look at most of the sites that describe files, you'll see that they state whether or not it came with the Windows operating system. In this case it did not. It is therefore not a big problem to delete/uninstall it. Worst-case you will break a program that you added after the operating system was installed and have to reinstall only a program.
