Okay, I have been itching to ride a Matrix and freestylegeek has been wanting to ride a Q8. You guys open for test rides in the spring if we want to take a short road trip?

What's under the hood?

Plan was to run a 927cc 66e setup in the matrix but he decided at the last minute to stick with the 62t. Its pretty much a stock 701 with pipe head and carbs. I think his future plans are for a 1000cc....or he might just pull the one out of the xft next to it.........sorry joe.

Q8 has an 800cc Polaris that Randy at Watcon built.

How does the eme polaris motor compare to other similar yamaha based setups you have? More or less power? I never hear anybody talking about the eme motors.

I think I like the Q8 better. How does it ride? I've heard they ride very nose high?

Aaron

I rode one back in September and didn't get that feeling at all. After about a minute it felt really natural/normal to me, though I do ride a shortened stocker.

Sorry...The polaris has a much larger/heavier crank so needless to say it wont rev up as fast as a 62t. keep in mind that it has the stock crank and flywheel which are both super beefy. The Polaris has insane mid and high end.....I have not ridden the big stuff (1000,1105) so I cannot compare to that level but I know they have a ridiculous amount of all around power. Tom Ramsey can prob offer up some input there. This particular motor makes really nice power and its far stronger than the 5 mil big bore motors I have ridden. It doesnt have anything on the bottom compared to the xscream 1000 but it does make awesome power through the mid to high rpms. Also keep in mind that the stock octane hull this was in weighed over a 100lbs more than the Q8 setup. I like the Polaris because with the stock stroke, 165lbs of compression and 85mm pistons it will out power most motors out there (on the stock ignition and pump gas). The bottom end feels a bit stronger than my 927cc 66e which I thought had nice grunt off the bottom. I am not a huge fan of working on my motors when I want to be riding so I always stay on the conservative and simple side of setups. This setup would hit a lot harder with total loss mainly because it takes a ton of weight off the flywheel.

I did just pick up a carls cycle 910 that I am going to build and I think that will be a nice safe and reliable setup with plenty of power for what I am looking to do.....or I might just lose my mind and pull a superramjet at some point.

as dumb as this sounds I have never ridden a Q8. My brother rode Eric's 1000 last year in Daytona and said that he liked it. I like that its has the width like the sxr's and octanes. I loved my Envy but even though the bottom deck was shortened (and rode nice and light) I still felt like it had a lot of overall length to it which made getting some tricks around a little more technical. If this has the side to side stability of the Envy I could care less how much nose pop it has.

Anyone who has ridden a q8, feel free to straighten my uneducatedass out.

More Matrix Pics

Here are some more pics of the Matrix. I am waiting on a stitched mat for the tray area - the rest is complete. Everything literally bolts right in as if it were stock.

The fit, finish, and overall quality of this ski is unmatched. Seriously, the thing is a work of art. On top of that, it is so solid words can't do it justice. At one point I called Bobby because I was unsure of what bolt length to use on the intake grate - my concern was that I may damage an insert with a bolt that was too long; there is so much reinforcement there that it requires a bolt longer than stock - he explained that the bolt would fail before I popped the top off an insert! He actually torques each insert in the hull before they are sent out.

I am running a super stock 701 for now. I was going to run a newly built 927 66e that I have but decided to go with the lighter 701 in the surf. I may run the 66e in the lake over the summer or go with a bigger 62t at a later date. The 701 should really allow me to get a feel for the handling of the hull in the surf. As it sits the dry weight is 290 lbs. Not bad considering that it is an XF NOT a Pro version and how beefed up the boat is everywhere.

Finally, I'd like to thank Bobby from Trinity for all of his patience, professionalism, and help. Everything was delivered as promised, and the high quality of the boat makes me feel like I got my money's worth.
