Pump/Drive shaft removal???

It wont budge.......at all. I started with unbolting the intermediate housing to put a new coupler on and after removing the bolts I couldn't get it off.....so I figured the pump must go first. Well after unbolting the pump and trying to pull out the drive shaft I found it does not want to come out that way either:banghead:

I have tried to hammer it out, I have tried to pry it out, shot some WD-40 down there....but still it wont move.....Am I missing something?

some background....Matt ********ed up the coupler last weekend......could this be more damage?

Everything spins fine.....no noise at all......I don't really want to leave it in....I was kinda hoping to get a new impeller but this might slow that down:banghead: :banghead:

Any ideas?

If the engine is not shimmed properly, or if the coupler is jacked, it can be pressing down or up on the midshaft and put it in a bind and cause the splines to be damaged. Maybe the splines are just so damaged that they are locked together where they will still spin but not slide apart. take a small hammer and lightly tap on the long shaft while spinning it, dont beat on it hard enough to bend it, hopefully it will break it loose. When you get it apart inspect both the mating halves of the splines for damage, you might be in for a new set. Good luck.:frown:

so the intermediate shaft wont seperate from the driveshaft? as in, theyre seemingly permanently joined at the splines?

ive never had that problem before, but it sounds like the splines are boogered up from the 'impact'.

i would bolt the pump back up and work on getting the intermediate off of it. did you try pushing down or pulling up on the coupler? maybe put vicegrips on the driveshaft and turn the coupler to one extreme or the other and twist while pulling on the coupler to get the splines out of their 'notch' if there is one from the damage.

The engine is out.....I will try the hammer thing.

Also I should add that I have removed this thing many times before with no troubles

Dont say ******** like that!

I'll see what I can do.....

I vote for locked up driveshaft/intermediate shaft.

Good thing I gave you pistons and all sorts of other stuff for free in the past.
That means I'm off the hook.

Can you get a prybar (or screwdriver) between the pump and the hull (the pump shoe)? I had to do that once to break a pump out.

thatd be a last resort just due to the risk of damaging the pump shoe.

I have tried that but didnt try all that hard because of what charlie said.

I have also tried using a pry bar on the intermediate housing but again it looked like I might break something
