Just want to say HI to everyone.

Hi Everyone! :veryhappy:

I have recently purchased my first Jet Ski (after working much over time and wanting something for myself) and my boyfriend told me of this forum. So, here I am.

My Jet Ski is a 650 conversion ski built by a local enthusiast. I have only had the ski out once, and never got off my knees... but, it was GREAT none the less. I LOVE speed and water!
I am going out again this Wednesday with my boyfriend and another friend to hopefully stand up and NOT kill myself... LOL... I am totally excited... even if I DO kill myself!

Does anyone have any suggestions for my first time EVER being on a stand up ski and what NOT to do... or what TO do?! LOL

Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and have a super holiday,

Phoenix

Welcome to the X! I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself.

Take it easy and keep your balance. Speed is your friend when trying to take off.

Practice pulling yourself out of the water and getting on step and ride on your knee's for a while practice turning left and to the right don't get in a big hurry to stand up learn how it turn's with throttle and no throttle and when you do then you can start standing up but don't just haul ass and wipeout, you can ride standing up at slower speed's. Good Luck and welcome to the Dark side!

Ok.... so from what I have learned so far, the big things are to bend your knees, squeeze the throttle and keep my bottom low in the tray.

Now, I am right handed, but think I will feel more comfortable with my left leg forward and my right leg behind... is this just a personal thing or should I have my "lead" leg forward?

Lets keep this going!

Thanks

LOL.... I have heard that can be an issue. I would laugh SO hard if something like that happened to me. I am prone to things like that happening to me for some strange reason. Oh well, I guess everyone will get a great show.... and a FUN ride! LMAO!

I am totally excited... is it Wednesday yet?!

Ugh!

be smooth on and off the throttle, don't be choppy with it, nice and even, if you smash on the throttle it will jerk you back and if you let off to fast it will throw you foward. Once you stand up and get the feel, like eveyone said knees bent, lean foward a little (weight on the front foot) and when you start to turn use your throttle to keep you balance give it some gas to keep you in control.

Once you learn to ride a 550 hull you can ride anything. oh, and you may want ear plugs as they can be loud and make your ears ring, also get a helmet, like a cheap down hill mt. bike helmet.....and most of all enjoy it, it is habbit forming.

If I'm not in a wetsuit, I'm in board shorts. Gives me that extra layer of protection for wet work!

Welcome! "Keep your center of gravity low" and "throttle is your friend" = best pieces of advice for a newbie 550 rider.

Also, don't give up! 550's aren't an easy ski to start with, but they are great skis to start with.

Wow! Thanks to everyone for all the great info! I am SO excited about this, I can't stand it! Ugh!

It was kind of funny.... my boyfriend, "Kalwren", is the one who introduced me to the group. He was having a ski built and by the time it was done, I had just purchased mine and it was ready to go.. from the jump. I felt kinda bad as he had been working on his for MONTHS!

So, the first (and only) time I went out, I was on my knees on my ski and I just remember it being a great feeling.... my long, red hair blowing behind me, the smell of the water and my anticipation of a BIG wipe out. LOL. It was super fantastic!

So, as you can see, I am totally looking forward to this, no matter what happens!

Thanks to all for the great suggestions!
