Im in the process of a buildup on an 09, have it stripped down to the hull and was wondering about a couple things before I ordered everything.

Whats the best aftermarket head and dome combo for a stock motor??

V-force reeds?? Are they worth the money? Much difference??

Advent ingnition, heard it really wakes up the SXR's... Does it?? Still reliable??

Fuel deletion noise piece, where to get fuel spicket to mount on top of fuel tank??

Just wanted to get your 2 cents from those that have been down this road. Im for sure getting the factory wet pipe and water box (ill find out myself about the noise issue with the waterbox). Im looking for alot of bottom end, I live in north Texas so most of my riding is flatwater.

Thanks, Daniel

1. Stock Kawi 800 motors, especially ones fresh out of the box, run pretty high psi already. My stock 2005 that I bought four years ago still blows 175 psi in each hole. Going to an ADA, JSU, or TBM head may get you more compression but you're fast approaching race gas mix.

2. Reeds? Not yet.

3. Advent igntion is a great upgrade coupled with a lightweight charging or total-loss flywheel.

4. Reuse your stock fill by mounting it to your gas tank on the inside.

If it's tons of bottom end you want, you may need a port job in the winter, a shorter prop, and some less weight on the ski.

Yea im trying to shave as much weight as posiable BELIVE me. Im getting a prop as well, just wanted to know about the motor mods.

I guess thats when the remote fuel pump comes into play??

Thanks, Daniel

1. Get the Factory Wet Pipe
2. Lightened Flywheel
3. Mill your stock head. (Group K or LPW)
4. Jetworks Flow control valve.
5. bore your nozzle to 82mm

Handling mods
1. Footholds
2. 4 or 0 degree bars
3. Superjet steering and a shorter aluminum pole.

(Then cut weight, aftermarket hood helps alot! No need for a new impeller, I still run stock!)
Reeds are not worth the cash. Stockers on an SXR are good.
Impeller is not needed. It comes stock with a Solas Swirl that is great for low end.

I haven't tried the ignition yet.

I've got a wamiltons stubby cone, that woke it up a lot. and the stock prop is not made for low end. it was designed to be good at all RPM, but not perfect at any specific one.

I just bought a Skat 9/17 140-75 (have to get the 140-75 to fit the Kaw pump, so Skat says) but havent gotten to ride it because one of my piston ring retaining pins decided it wasnt going to stay in place, leading to a ring snagging an exhaust port

anywho, the tech @ skat when I called said for low end get the 9/17 swirl, nothing hits harder

it limits water getting into the stinger part of the wet pipe until higher rpm. it keeps the waterbox dryer at lower rpm, so when you nail the throttle for the huge backflip you dont have a ton of water to push out of the exhaust first

If you are going for freestyle and big air, I would definately get a girdle kit put on. The ADA and TBM head with girldle are good and you do not have to cut your cylinders. The Kommander head is great as well but you will have to modify the cylinder to mount. Like others said, get a wetpipe, bars, turnplate, bilge pumps, cut the ride plate, footholds, jetworks valve, and possibly a new prop. I got rid of my wetwolf freestyle cone and just installed a TBM. I also put in a solas dynafly prop 13/22 I think. We will see how this setup goes.

Im going to be getting:

RRP pole with all the goods
Trinity carbon hood
Trinity footholds
Trinity nose piece
TDR waterbox
TBM lighter charging flywheel
TBM head w/girdle
TBM intake grate
TBM drive shaft housing with bearings (while im in there)
TBM exhaust flange
TBM pump cone
Blowsion composite side rails
Flow control valve
Factory wetpipe
Skat impeller
Grid out all access glue (in process)
Cut OEM ride plate flush
Smaller battery
and maybe Advent ignition

I already have 0 deg bars, Tau Ceti (sp) flame arrestors and some other small stuff. I have all winter to do this, just taking one thing at a time.

After all thats said and done, I get to do the same to my Dads ski..lol funtimes!!

Thanks for the input, Daniel

Sounds like a good setup. Forget about the TBM exhaust flange. More trouble than it's worth. I know. :chairshot:

Wow, you are spending some bucks.
When I tried the Advent I found little improvement over just advanced timing. The seat of the pants feel and radar gun saw no real change.

I also agree with DJ. The stock prop with a bored nozzle is pretty darn good.

My 800 had 175psi compression so I really don't see the need for a head unless you want to run race gas. I would look into porting before I did this.

I would say most of the other stuff is putting you on the right track. Keep cutting weight where you can.
Is anyone running Xmetal poles on SXR's now? I think they are a few pounds lighter than RRP.

The reason I wanted a RRP cause its adjustable, just for the fact no one around where I live has one to try out....or even has a stand up for that matter. I think the Xmetal is a much cleaner looking design, never saw one until I googled it. I guess thats why you live and learn right??

I know they make a mounting bracket for the SJ, but I really wanted to get rid of that bulky oem one, do they make one for the SXR?? Didnt see where the adjustable setup was listed for the SXR...

Thanks, Daniel
