water injestion

when i get water in my engine and it just bogs i ride around until it clears. when it clears up i take a couple 3/4 throttle runs. this is all ive been doing to get the water out and everything seems fine. should i do anything else? like pull the plugs, or fogging oil? or is that just if you load the engine with water to the point where it wont run? i sank my ski once and pulled the plugs, cranked it, and watched the geysers of water, then started it. and it has been fine since then...

i have also heard about people blowing up there engines from water injestion....

Water don't like to compress, it can bend rods or cause em to break. If injest any water i usually ride in and yank the plugs out and hit each cylinder with a methanol or wd-40 and crank it over until all water is out, then fire it up and take a plug reading to make sure there are no signs of water. Just my method, it seems to work out for me.

Take a good look at where the water is entering the bilge and do something about it.
Hood seal, pole bracket, air intakes, etc.
IMHO, effort is better directed at keeping water out of the bilge in the first place.
I run Pro-K flame arrestors on dual carbs, without outerwears, and NEVER have water ingestion issues - be it on flatwater doing rolls, stabs, subs, etc, or in heavy surf.

Nothing to share, really.
Make sure your hood seal is good.
Make sure you don't have excessive amounts of water coming in through the pole bracket. If you can, use tubes inside the pole, going through the bracket and into the hull.
See if the hood air intakes let in excessive amounts of water.

The way I see it... If the engine didn't stall out, you're fine as long as you gently bring it back up to speed the first time. If it's got a bad bog, I usually let it idle for 5-10 seconds before giving it some gas. If the engine did stall and won't start back up, then you're forced to go into shore, pull the plugs, and clear the engine. Then go back out and ride for at least 5-10 minutes to make sure all the water is out...taking note if the head gasket has been compromised or not.

Whatever you do...don't leave water in the crankcase!
