Ooops, I think I forgot to respond to your PM. Sorry about that.

I've seen the wire break, right where it enters the plastic of the pickup.
You can try grinding some of that plastic away, find the break, fix it, and put epoxy in place of the plastic.
Worked for me.

thanks i am not getting any contact between the wires when i pass a magnet over it.

does it need to be pwered up w/ 12v to get a contact? just trying to have everything right before the new motor goes in/\

Granted if you ripped a wire out of the pickup, you are certainly reaching to repair it. If you drilled the hole enough to expose some metal wire then heated up some solder enough to keep it liquid long enough to drop it in the hole with another piece of wire jammed in the hole, it might work.

The pickup will register a very small resistance if you pass the flywheel magnet over it.

There should be zero resistance between the wires, magnet or not.
To get a signal, the sensor must be powered.

It's a Hall Effect sensor.
It has small resistance with and without a magnet.
It is an active pickup.

thanks. i'll check it tonight hooked up to a battery. red-+, black - gnd, white will be output on the dyna pick up. how does the msd work. is it the same? it's in the motor already and hooked up but i am not getting a signal from it from what i can tell.

Well that ever so slight resistance increase when you pass it over the magnet was how I determined my static timing when the LED didn't work. I could only assume that if both wires were actually connected the resistance increase would be present.

Sorry, if you got a three wire sensor, I can't help you.
I am talking about 2 wire Hall-effect type only.

Passing the magnet over the sensor induces a small amount of current into the sensor.
Because of the way a Voltmeter/Ohmmeter works, you read that as a higher resistance.
It's not actually higher resistance, but the meter thinks that it is.

That kinda makes sense. I don't know electrical stuff that well...about the only thing I learned in my electrical engineering course was that you could stick a voltmeter in a wall outlet and not die. LOL

My basic thought process was, if the wires were reconnected and you get a slight resistance jump, then they are actually touching again and could possibly transmit a signal properly. If no resistance jump, the wires aren't touching and the trigger will most certainly not work.

I say just stick it in the over, since thats the new thing to do! :dunno:

Edit: Since its the pickup the oven wont work, try the microwave..
