Diet foods...what do you like???

So I've mentioned in a couple other threads that I'm starting a diet. Nothing drastic. I'm just counting calories and being conscious of the value of everything that I eat. I wanted to start a list of things that taste good and are filling without be very high on the calorie scale.

My light breakfast burrito = 255 cal

Rice cakes with laughing cow cheese, relish and ham = 85 cal each

Muscle Milk light = 100 - 160 cal depending on which one you get

Progresso Light and Campbell's Select Harvest Light are around 160 cal for the whole can. I don't buy anything with MSG in it, so I'm always reading labels.

I used to make a chili that is just beans, and also lentil soup. They can be made very light and tasty. Beans are a wonderful food. High in protein and fiber and fill you up quickly. I'll have to play around with them again.

Something to keep in mind: eat only when you're hungry. All the diet food in the world won't help you if you don't address the root problem - overeating.

I look forward to my mid morning snack every day.....

celery with a tablespoon of peanut butter :Banane09:

I make chicken fingers at home...slice up some chicken breast...dip in one egg and roll in crushed fat free croutons and bake...usually dip them in hot sauce.....delicious!

I love fruits and berries, but can't stand veggies accept for a few, and they are usually dipped in ranch.

I'm pretty sure my wife has convinced herself that she loves foods that are low in calories. She loves celery dipped in hummus, asparagus, broccoli, etc. I just can't stomach that stuff. The most I'll do is a raw spinach salad. But again, it will have ranch on it.

There will surely be chicken and fish on the menu. We both love those.

I love me some hummus :Banane09:

I can also eat my weight in raspberries :bananapowerslide:

That's why I am keeping a food journal where I write down everything I eat. I need the accountability.

Those chicken fingers sound delicious. I do have some Panko bread crumbs that have 2.5g of fat per 1/4 cup and 110cal. I could give them a try.

Haha. Ditto.

Now I know that nobody ever got fat eating fruit, but what if you ate 3000 cal in fruits per day? Would you gain weight, or would the fiber "contradict" the calories? I'm sure you'd be one very "regular" person.

I tried making them with crushed bran flakes too....they were ok. They were sort of soggy and not as great tasting.

oh yeah....I am addicted to my pumpkin smoothie that I do for breakfast :Banane09:

1 teaspoon ground flax
2 teaspoons vanilla protein powder
2 tablespoons low fat vanilla yogurt
1/4 cup of pumpkin
1 package of cooked PLAIN oatmeal
1 package of splenda
a few ice cubes

that makes 2 servings.....and it holds me over until my mid morning snack

you don't have to add any spices or anything if you use the croutons....and they heat up much better than the corn flakes :Banane09:

I make turkey tacos like they are going out of style...usually make them 3lbs at a time and then eat them all week til I cant stand it anymore..cant stand the texture of ground beef unless its in a burger..

I think my body is going thru some kind of wierd change now as red meat sounds 100% UNappetizing (bubba burgers excluded)...

dont waste your time or money with muscle milk get just a regular whey protein you can pay around a dollar a serving or less. have a shake in the morning with your breakfast. a good morning filler is oatmeal it give you the good carbs so youll have energy all day. but the brekfast burrito is your thing use a whole grain wrap. try to keep away from bleached grains. i have a few healthy recipes i can type up later but get your protein intake up. there are crazy studies about the effect of whey protein and weight loss.

Try to do something as soon as you're done eating to get you waway from food. After a meal, instead of eating more, go out to the garage and work on your ski, fifteen minutes later your mind will catch up with your stomache and you'll feel full.

Fruit smoothies are easy and taste good. I make one every night with frozen strawberries, a banana, sugar free juice, non-fat yogurt, and some flaxeed

Have a big bowl of regular oatmeal in the morning with blueberries and you're set until lunch.

Turkey or just bean chili is always good and will fill you up easy. Make a huge thing of it and keep it in the fridge so it's a 2 minute meal all week.

Hardboil some eggs just to have in the fridge. They're filling, but too many aren't good. Load up a 2-egg omelet with vegetables until they make up half the omelet. Good way to get the veggies in.

Apples (golden delicious are really low cal) I like raw brocoli, tomatoes and cucumber with a little bit of dressing. Cauliflower, carrots. Make a spinach and lettuce salad.

Stay away from white bread. Whole grains make you feel fuller

Water should be your only beverage.

I don't count calories but my sisters have always been really health consious and would always give my chit whenever I would eat unhealthy food. It eventually just wore off on me but I still eat crap every now and then
