I got titles for both and the 89 is stock good running the 91 is a little beat up and has the after market West coast exaust and Mariner plate and what not on it.Does anyone know how to make them steer better? The steering is loose on both.LOL Let me know if you have an accu steer or umi steering for sale.

EDIT: becareful though about subs. it was my first time out yesturday and i tried to splash some one and the nose went under and kept going. i hit bottom in almost 6 feet of water.

Some people just run a stud through the steering stem to tighten it up. You could do that until you find an A/M setup.

Watch out on the 89. Look under the hoods and compair the 2 steering cables between your boats. The 91 will definetly have a "cage" steering. Most of the 89 year had direct steering and the cables are VERY weak and prone to snapping in half. This is really important to reinforce with an aluminum tube or similar, under the hood where the steering arm attaches to the cable. I bought the last OEM kawasaki 89 steering cable that kawi had. If anything happens you have to hunt them down used which is a HUGE PIA....trust me.

I took the 91 apart becuase the hull is beat looking underneath it.I have a West coast pipe a West Coast intake and $$ SBN carb with Boyeseen reeds and a new bilge pump and aluminum pissers for bilge and pipe.It also had a Skat Trac impeller 13.5/16.5 is that a good pitched impeller???I am in the process of installing this stuff on the other ski.I have the feeling why he sold them is because the drive shaft bearing seal is leaking is this a hard fix?I am going to pull the gas tank and motor some time this week and check it out.Let me know if you have any reccomendations.

As has been said in this thread - the 89 has straight cable and the 91 has the squirrel cage steering. I consider the 88 and 89 X2's to be worth zero because of their lack of turnability. I respectfully suggest you place all effort in getting the 91 fixed up and then install a quick steer on the 91.
On the impeller - this should be a good impeller - and the driveshaft bearing housing is an easy replace - you do have to pull the engine and driveshaft to change it - buy a good one off ebay or get one here or on pwctoday.
There are threads on guys modifying the straight cable ski's to turn better - I've ridden a few and can honestly say the best one I've ridden is only fair to a stock squirrel cage ski.

Best wishes - Prof

Now that the 91 hull is stripped clean it up maybe paint it and swap everything from the 89 to it so you dump the direct steer junk.

Hull change

I will have to do a little work to the bottom of the 91 hull then as it isnt too good of shape.a no mind tried to glass it together and did a :):):):) job of it.I guess it sounds like I better get out the grinder and start some fiberglass work.LOL Is there any mods I can do to it while I have it stripped down?

Bottoms will always look like crap after a few rides. Unless its some :):):):) polyester job repair job that actually needs to be fixed....just sand the bottom and a quick coat of white appliance paint will make it look as good as new. If you have any minor gouges, you can make a nice EPOXY filler using west systems with some 406 mixed in. Shorten the hull 1.5" while you are at it. Makes a nice difference in turning.
