Blocking off the front intake hole on the hood and opening up the back will help out a ton with water getting in. If you are subbing, fountians, stabs, etc.....get used to it and install bilges.

Yeah, you have to tell us exactly what kind of riding you are doing. If you are just casually riding on the water, no subs, no stabs, etc. then you may have a leak inside-one of your cooling lines may not be completely secured or have a pinhole leak in it- put the ski on the trailer and run it in a lake to see if you can identify the leak.
If you are going crazy, subbing and all the other underwater antics, like the others say, put a bilge in. You actually should always have a bilge in regardless. As for the duckbill...no way. Instead buy a versiplug. http://www.shop.pwcdoctor.com/main.sc;jsessionid=B4AA5F9A17C41577ADF68A88CFA65C72.qscstrfrnt04
I used to run duckbills, but after one fell off and my ski sunk, I said never again. I have been running the versi for about 2.5 years, not one incident. Just make sure you clean your engine compartment of zip tie ends and other debris, as these have a tendency to make their way to the back of the ski and can keep the versiplug open and thus swamp your ski.
With the bilge and the plug, my ski is BONE dry, no matter where I ride or what I do.

I have been wanting to try one of those Versiplugs so I just ordered one. I am sick of my duckbill. It leaks water in all the time.

your going to get water in it no matter what. if you get too much water in it and dont have a bilge and dont want to take it up the ramp, i just tried this today, but unplug the drain plug, do some bunny hops and get up to speed. dont do any subs or anything, and come back, quickly jump off and plug it back up.

I don't do crazy subs or under water stunts and the water gets in. I will check for leaks first and then looks like a Versiplug. It has a bilge from the factory but maybe its not working right. thks for all the input.

Factory bilge is worthless. I kept mine in, but you can pretty much trash it if you have the plug and an aftermarket bilge.

I just got the versi-plug and I am not happy with it. I have a sxr 800 and I race. When I place my ski on the scissor stand I have a steady flow of water flowing in. Considering going back to the suck bill.

I like the duck bills, it's just smart to keep a couple of the bills on hand in case your beating on the ski. It has never failed me yet. I think your better off with the duck bill and a bilge pump. I never have any water in my compartment

The versi is a plug that has a plastic ball inside and operated on the principle of pressure-if the ski is in the water and the hull is dry, the water pressure outside forces the ball closed. If the hull has water in it, and the boat is in motion, the ball opens to drain the excess water. When the boat is stationary...hell, I dunno what it does. Limited may have issues due to water he already has in the ski after riding- technically speaking, the plug should not leak unless there is an obsruction forcing the ball open.

The duck bill is a rubber flap that remains sealed unless you create foward motion and water pressure from inside the engine compartment running out the back causes it to open to drain any water. When your stationary the rubber bill remains closed. It's just two pieces of thin rubber that are pressed against each other and the only time they open is when they are forced to by water leaving the compartment. I have never had a problem with my d-bill.

Versi plugs are much better than duck bills. They don't dry rot or rip like every duck bill.
You have to make sure nothing gets stuck in them just like a duck bill or they will leak just the same.
