which ski is for me?

Im lookin for a change from my 750. I can afford around $3000. so what should i be looking for?
i think either a modded fx-1, a modded rn, or an octane. I mostly ride flatwater with the occasional trip to one of the great lakes for choppy surf. i also wanna get clean flatwater rolls down

I say get a cheap SN or FX-1 and use the remaining money to mod the piss out of it this summer. If you get an FX-1, you'll want to change the pump but it'll be awesome once you do. Everyone mods over the winter because they have more time but it's an absolute blast to mod piece by piece during the summer because you know exactly what is worth the money and what isn't. Plus you get to see instant results for all your time and hard earned money.

so is an octane out of the question? how are they on flatwater, didnt malone flip em off a setup wake? was that with a lightwieght hull and/or a stupid huge/expensive engine?

I believe Malone had a hull designed off of the SXR bottom deck and octane top deck with a big beefy motor. Even if I'm wrong, you can pretty much bank on Malone not riding a stock boat...or anything close to one. The guy has an amazing ability of make things work together so I highly doubt he would ride a stock boat for fun.

Power aside...when was the last time you saw octane parts in the "for sale" forum? With a kawi or Yamaha, you can build a heck of a ski off of other peoples used parts and spend half the money or less.

well what parts would it need that arnt universal? pretty much all it would need is footholds, a port job, and is total loss available for an octane engine? hmmm idk...it seems i made a mistake, asking which ski i should get when i already made up my mind. I WANT AN OCTANE so change of topic, can an octane be a decent flatwater freestyle ski? or atleast better then a 750sx?

I've never ridden an octane but if this is all an octane can do with a WDK 1200 engine...I'll die happy having never ridden one. My 750 can do everything that ski did and my SJ can do more. That video is the best example of worthless ever...

Believe me, I fully understand the desire to be different but isn't a $4k ski with hardly any mods going a bit far?

Octanes come stock with a lot of mods. (BPipe, UMI pole and steering, Bilge pump, killer pump and aftermarket impeller) They rip right out of the box!

Just footholds and they would be a decent freestyle ski, BUT you can get a superjet with more mods for cheaper and it would be a better freestyle ski for flatwater.

I think what he's asking is if this is a good deal for him if he could get this ski for $3000?

if you can get an Octane for 3k that isn't a pile of parts go for it.

The Octane has more power out of the box than any of the new skis. comes factory with most of the mod parts already installed and most or the wear and tear items are reaily availible. yes it's heavier than an SJ, but lighter than an SXR and the hull is almost indestructable for us mere mortals.

dont listen to the haters, if you can ride an Octane, you'll want it.

Octane it is!!! Boykid, I WANT THAT SKI

and the only sj ive ridden is a 650 square, prolly nothin to base a desicions off of other then the tiny tray, but i prefered my 750. ALOT more like the hull design and what not
