Pump alignment problem. Please help. Not your average alignment question.

So this is the first time I have ran across this type of problem.

I installed the pump, and can get it aligned up and down just fine, but as you can see in the pics, the drive shaft sits in the hole closer to the carb side of the boat than the exhaust side of the boat.

I have never come across this problem before. You can't really twist the pump to compensate for this problem b/c there are dowel pins that go up into the ski that don't allow it to shift left/right. I guess I could remove those dowels, but I would assume they are there for a reason.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

Had a similar thing happen to me just recently. I used some of the shims I got from you and shimmed the intermediate housing accordingly. Basically the bottom screw and the left hand side screw needed no shim, ended up with 0.5 mm on the right hand side screw. I can't think of any other adjustment that could be made?

i don't think that will help me... the bolt holes on the mid shaft and the holes in the firewall don't line up at all.

Dowel pins from the pump to the hull? I have never had any in my ski.

I would take them out, but...personally I'd disassemble the whole thing to look for another problem because that is strange.

I came across the same problem on my 2007 hull last weekend installing an older pump. I'm not sure what is out of alignment but I'm going to run it this way anyway. It looks like the pin holes are drilled off just a bit.

My shaft is straight...I checked...twice. :smokin:

Every superjet I have worked on has had pins on top of the pump next to the forward mounting feet. There are dowel indentations holes next to the two front pump mounting holes.

mine is way worse than that..its been fine for over a year now...just run it

Sure you can just run it, but both the pump and midshaft splines will wear out super quick.

Remove the rear pump bolts and loosen the front pump bolts so they are just hand tight.

Use a long tapered punch and insert in the rear bolt hole to put leverage on the pump assembly while tightening the front bolts.

totally viable, but just sucks b/c what if remove the pump without removing the midshaft to possibly changed impellers in the future? i will have no way of knowing if the pump is aligned properly.

This will probably end up being what I do, but just sucks. Stupid old square nose. I should just part it out and buy a RN. haha.

Alright you got me there.

Just surprising b/c I had my alignment off on my RN for like 6 months and it has already started to wear down the splines. And I know they were perfect when first installed.
