So today I bought a js 550, the hull is pretty beat up but the engine turns over so next thing is to get it started hopefully this weekend. I am totally new to stand-ups so this should be fun.

A few ?'s before I begin, it looks like the owner re-painted the hull and filled in the fire extinguisher hole. Do they make a holder kit for inside the hull or what??

Also where do you find these metal nose/hull braces for the ski's?? I hear the hull needs to be reinforced but where can you buy these braces??

Here are a few pics when I got it

Hows your spark, compression. my buddy is trying to get some nose braces made so all let you know. I had to strap my fire extinguisher to my tank straps on my old ski.

Also get rid of that pipe and try to get a aftermarket one as soon as you can that things a tank. you will aslo need a aftermarket manifold to, this will help your ski out.

Got it all stripped, and powerwashed the inside. Parts are ordered so now its time to start sanding and fixing the cracks, chips and everything else.

I was thinking about removing the top air intake. I saw this pic on here where they added a larger vent in the back. Would that be enough air flow if I plugged up the top air snorkle??

Here is where im at now, got a lot done.

The onyl problem I ran into is in the last 2 pics, one hole for the rideplate the metal insert that the bolt screws into was stripped out from the hull, and one for the intake grate is backing itselt out. How do you screw these things back in and how would you re-install the one that ripped totally out. There is nothing for the threads to screw into the hull.

flip the hull over and glue it back in! did it once a couple years back. be sure to put a bolt into the piece that is being glued in so no glue gets into the threads, and also it will be easier set it up while the glue is wet. use something strong like marine tex to hold it in there. you can do the same for the intake bolt.

happy gluing :)

That looks good. I've never seen hood scoops like that but they look cool. Footholds make a 550 so much easier to ride.

If you are still looking for braces you might want to call Beef-It. They make pole and hull braces for the 550. Their number is 559-787-3701.

I have patent on the scoops !!!!!!!:spank:

just kidden great built !!
